I am an SEO Affiliate.. loads of people here are, many are both and some are just PPC.
I've been hanging around here for a couple of months now and
was initialy surprised by the fact most affiliates appear to use
PPC, Addwords etc.
As someone who only uses SEO, I would be interested to know
if it is because they can't build sites to rank high, or whether it is
just simpler to use PPC.
It would also be interesting to know what the ratio is of affiliates
who consider themselves primarily SEO's?
Has there ever been a poll on this?

I'm a SEO affiliate, but that's because I'm too tight to pay for it (Google AdWords that is!)
It's link exchanging all the way for me. Speaking of which, if anyone runs a quality UK Shopping site or electronics site, and has links pages that are indexed by Google, PM me for a link exchange.
Mind you, it seems to take ages to get link exchanges, so maybe one day I'll be tempted to dip into my pockets ...

I'm about 90% PPC as my SEO skills are non-existant.

PPC is much less dependent on the whims of an SE algorithm so is a much more solid business model than SEO.
However, I wouldn't caegorise it into just SEO or PPC; I would say PPC, Content (Service) Driven.
A website offering unique information or services can generate traffic outside of SEs and more importantly can generate repeat traffic. And there are plenty of good examples of these sort of websites from affiliates who contribute on this forum.
In the case of PPC or Content Driven there may be sometime spent on SEO.
I think affiliates who are entirely SEO - that is spend all their time trying to crack the latest Google (or MSN, or Yahoo) algorithm and whose content is purely the input for the spider - are going to find it increasingly difficult to generate traffic.

I'm both. But it all depends on ROI for both SEO and PPC, long term longevity of profits/sales, brand building, etc. You don't need to brand build but that's the road I seemed to stumble on and seem to be continuing down...
Basically whatever makes money and you feel comfortable with it, do it!
