  .web.com Domain Names!

Does anyone own any .web.com domain names? I've found an excellent .web.com URL I would like to build a niche website on but I'm concerned with how Google lists a 2nd-tier domain name?

Wouldn't touch it with a bargepole - a combination of naffness, potential search engine issues, and most importantly it wouldn't actually be a domain name... it's a subdomain of web.com, not a domain in its own right (or a "pseudodomain")

This means that you have very little protection against things going wrong - if the web.com domain owner decided to sell up or goes bust, or just doesn't like you, you are royally screwed.

This happened a couple of years back with the even more naff .uk.co pseudodomain. Lots of businesses had to start over with their web site promotion.

Well - i personally have some .uk.com's and they work just fine for me - i rank top in the areas i want to - so the domain is not really that important! its the content that matters

my opinion of course

Fraser seems to know their stuff
I'm not a fan of subdomains like this because like Dynamoo says if the company that owns web.com decides to sell, goes bust, loses the name somehow or any other disaster like that you have no protection.

At least with a .co.uk you can transfer it to a totally different company and have the protection of an independant body controlling things.
