Rather than trying to convince you to promote Express Chemist, I thought I would present 5 good reasons for being an affiliate in the Health & Beauty sector in general:

The number of affiliates actively promoting the H&B sector is dwarfed by the numbers promoting sectors such as Consumer Electronics, DVDs, Music & Flowers
H&B sites tend to convert far better then many other sectors
The average commission % in H&B is considerably higher than many other sectors
Spending on health is recession proof
Huge numbers of people search the internet for health related issues
Health & Beauty is a massive, untapped market for affiliates.

Don't hang around the gold mine with everyone else, pop down the road to the oil well that few people have noticed so far ;-)

    Hi,

I think I have been reluctant to *do* health and beauty
because of the quetion of legality (and effectiveness) of
    some of the products.

How do you counter those concerns on your site, or
    this just me?

    Steve

    Hi Steve

    You raise a valid point.

To answer your question about legality, we are are very careful in this respect. Qualified pharmacists supervise our service and we are members of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. For the OTC medicines that we sell, we ask a set of questions that are screened by a pharmacist prior to despatch. We also have strict guidelines in place for the purchase of products such as pain killers and laxatives.

I should also point out that we do not sell prescription medicines, with or without a prescription. We are very keen to differentiate ourselves from the seedy end of the market and will never venture into the grey area of writing prescriptions to fulfill orders.

All the OTC medicines we sell are available in your local pharmacy without a prescription.

With regard to the question of effectiveness, all pharmaceutical products undergo extensive clinical trials before reaching the market. These trials establish the effectiveness and safety of the product and are closely controlled to ensure the results are valid.

As many people know, the law is different for the sale of products such as herbal remedies. I'm not an expert in this area so here's a link that explains it better than I can:

I hope this clarifies things a little.

I keep hearing that this field is about to explode in the next few years but have been reluctant to get into it too. Quite simply, I don't know a damned thing about health care products so I wouldn't know where to start.

    Hello all,

Just to through in my two penneths...

We recently had a meeting with Dave from Express Chemist - regarding everything from logistics, to legalities to marketing - general merchant chit chat.

Now, I have no experience of the Health and Beauty sector whatsoever, but I can tell you that Express Chemist are (in my opinion) a very sound, well run business both ethically and commercially, with some exciting plans and ideas for the future.

If I were an affiliate therefore I would have no doubts whatsoever about promoting them - especially if the Health and Beauty sector is the "next big thing".

    Hope this helps a little.

Couldn't agree more! Health and beauty is doing really well at the moment. Thanks for putting this thread up.

If you want to promote the very best in health and beauty, why not sign up to Mankind's affiliate scheme on Affiliate Window? They pay 10%, with an average order value this month of £45, and average click to completed sale ratio of 5%! Mankind has some really good brands such as Anthony Logistics, Zirrh, Moulton and Brown, and Sharps which consumers love, and are only available in very select outlets in this country.

The Mankind website has been rebranded just this week, and has a great new look, so there can't be a better time to start promoting! Also take a look at Beauty Expert, the sister site to Mankind, has an even higher order value, this month averaging £66, and specialises in the very best beauty products not available in high street shops.

Both of these brands have good customer awareness, and superlative levels of customer service, including individual grooming advice, and next day delivery.

Customer awareness is only likely to increase in the near future with an exciting new offline development to really raise Mankind's profile among their target audience... Watch this space!

    Excellent thought provoking thread.

I have the domain beauty.org.uk lying around somewhere. If any H&B merchants are launching a white label scheme then give me a shout as would like to put it to use.

    Cheers!!
