How long should back links take to show up, and what is a good number to have, to ensure upping your PR in Google?

Back links in google seem to be updated in google once every month or so.

That doesn't mean that the links to your site are worthless it just means you don't know they're counting yet!

They updated last week and previous to that was about a month and a half a go if my memory serves me correctly.

If the site is new to Google's index you'll be "sandboxed" for at least 3 months - backlinks won't affect your PageRank in that time (but one day you'll suddenly see that they're having an effect).

Try and get links that generate traffic to begin with. The page rank will follow later on.

Is that automatic then? Should I not expect to see any revenue for three months.

    That's a bit harsh.

As I said in my post Jean. Look for traffic from your links and diversify that way you don't rely on Google for your existance

I dont know about the whole sandbox thing really. Whilst it seems to have affected some of my earlier sites, others it hasnt.

For example, I put a site up about 2 months ago and got some backlinks, they started to show in google and then in the last PR update the other week my site had PR and is performing well for keywords.

I find yahoo takes a lot longer to get listed!

That's a mssively simplified explanation of the situation. Nobody really knows what the sandbox is, why it exists, who it affects or how long it will affect a site.

All we really know is that new sites don't do as well in google as old sites, most of the time.

For a new site, this is quite a difficult task. We are looking for backlinks on sites that have a good ranking, and are, of course related or complimentary to ours.

It is an information site, so the revenue will come from adsence and affiliate programmes, where we can appropriately include them. I would love to include a shop, but it is difficult to find drop shippers, and while there are a large number of suppliers out their, very few have affiliate programmes.

Anyone had any experience with e-classifieds? We thought this might be a good earner.
