    Hi,

I currently use the shocking service of UKreg combined with fasthosts for my websites and hosting. however doing this seperatly for each site is starting to cost me. i've been told you can use a reseller package which works out a lot cheaper if you have many sites.

I dont know where to start, so does anyone have any pointers and some good ones to use?

looking for pretty basic hosting, php and cgi enabled.

    Cheers

meirhosting.net - their reseller packages are really good value and the support is great - response time can often be measured in minutes.

Speed and features are both good too. I run almost all of my sites with them now. The only down point is that it's paypal only, but I like that because you always know how to cancel it if you need to.

I use them in conjunction with 123-reg for domain names and it works really well.

I have found the reseller packages at clook.net to be excellent value for money.

Have been using them now for about 12 months and am totally satisfied with their products and service.

    Hope this helps.

for my personal stuff i use my own box now but started with a reseller on hostgator as one of my sites used to eat bandwidth like there was no tomorrow. They offer 50gig p/m for about £13-£14 and unlimited sites.

The thing i liked was that they offer 24/7 support on messenger, doesn't come much faster than that!

We use heartinternet.co.uk ourselves and they appear to be pretty good.

Not the cheapest but they are great regarding bandwidth. They advertise no bandwidth restrictions. But I am sure there must be some.

They also have an affiliate programme.

I was hosting with Heart Internet for about 6 months, for the first 4 months they were fine, but then there servers really started to slow down (and in some cases stop at peek times), and about a month ago they had 4 days downtime because they had because of a power supply problem (or something like that, i forget the details). btw: The restrictions with heart internet are that you can use no more than 5% server load, but i don't think they enforce this as they have 1000's of sites running on each of there 4 servers. (yep only 4 servers and 1 storage array)

Currently i'm using bpweb.net who appear to be much quicker, but I guess only time will tell.

    Thanks for replies everyone.

I want to get away from fasthosts as their customer service is appalling. I dont want to get into it but i've had so many problems with them and would say steer clear.

But thats just me, maybe others have had good experiences.

I used uh-hosting.co.uk for a while and they were very good. Re-seller started at £5.99 per month I think. Always good support. Moved over to Dedipower now and they can't be faulted for dedicted servers.

Looking to move up to a dedicated server after having various sites on shared plans littered all over the place.

I finally hit the limit on my current 1&1 account due to the small (100MB) database limits they impose, way to small for a new price comparison site.

The upgrade route to 1&1's managed servers looks by far the easiest, but I'm also interested in other options. Heart don't seem to have a great reputation, can't find any costings for Rackspace, MyQth support looks a bit shaky.

Any other options or should I stick with 1&1?

Mate don't go with Heart, I was with them and they appeared great for a while but service gradually go slower and slower.

We have since moved to a deicated server with UKFast.net and they are excellent, we have been with them for about 5 months now. Great Tech support (free as well, with dedicated server). They are extremley helpful, can't fault them from personal experience.

Although this is admittedly coming from the same person who has tipped heart ealier in this thread.

You could try webfusion, they offer reseller, VPS (Virtual Private Server) and Dedicated Server Options.

They are a little more expensive with reseller and VPS packages starting from around £26 a month + VAT but the speed on the servers are excellent.

They are part of the same company as 123 Reg (the PIPEX group) who offer excellent domain management.

I'm with ThePlanet.com at the moment, and they are great if you have large requirements - but before that I used Kualo.com, and they were the only other host I have ever been pleased with. Just be sure you don't go for an "el cheapo" host, as the problems aren't worth it.
