I'm not convinced it's gone for good yet. Toolbar queries currently get this response

Your client does not have permission to get URL {query URL} from this server. (Client IP address: {your IP})

You do not have permission to send search queries from this IP address. Please login to the Google Admin Console and ensure that this IP is in your list of permitted IPs. Remember that it may take a few hours for a newly added IP address to become activated and able to perform queries.

That seems like an odd error to show if its gone for good. I'm 40/40/20 between a bug, a tightening down to stop the seo tools and actual removal of public PR display.

yup noticed it too yesterday, used some online PR checking tools yesterday which all reported my PR was 70 out of 10 ... yup 70 !!

well I don't care what they do with the little grey bar or the new 'trustrank' thingy - as long as they leave things the way they have been since Wednesday night at 9.14 pm (approximately) - I'll be a happy bunny

Hi All

Agree, google traffic seems well up over the past week

However, not concerned about page rank as ours has been falling lately since we binned all the free loading non affiliate sites from Elite late last year

I think it's unlikely Google have dumped the toolbar PR. If google were to do this, I would think they're more likely to just release a toolbar update that doesn't have the PR bar BEFORE they actually denied all toolbar requests for PR. The way it is now, it just looks faulty.
