    Hi,

Was wondering if it is possible to hide who is information from general view ? I'm not doing or planning anything illegal or underhand it's just I feel as though I have a highly valuable/desirable domain name potentially which i would like to put up for sale/auction. However, prior to doing this I would not like my whois info to be displayed. It seems to be that my info doesnt show on .com's I own but does on .co.uk. Anyone got any ideas?

If and when I can get this who is info hidden then I will be posting the domain name for interest and bids on this forum as I feel this is the best place to offer it.

    Thanks

    Tiger

Is the .co.uk in your personal name? If yes then you can get the Whois info hidden however your name will still be visible. Also I highly doubt your .com info is hidden right now, not if you didn't go out your way to hide it. I could check for you if you want, send me a PM.

To get your .uk domains Whois hidden simply ask the company you bought the domain name from to send the command to Nominet to hide the Address details, simple as that, it will be hidden 5 mins after they do it.

If you've purchased you domain name from 123reg there's actually an option to administer the domain and remove your details from display. As supercod hinted, i believe you have to state that you are an "individual" or maybe even "sole trader" in order to hide the info. If you register as a ltd or partnership then they don't allow you to do this.

    Cheers

Yes easy enough with 123. but I see that some companies are charging £7.00 per domain name per year to hide info, what a rip off. I know I'm talking .co.uk, but if they stopped sending those wasteful paper registrations for domains, they'd save themselves bundles. Have they ever heard of e-mail?

I been a Nominet Member since 1998 and don't even start me on what a waste of space that company is, talk about an unfair monopoly. As they are non-profit they have to spend money like its tap water and boy do they have some wasteful things to spend money on. Logo Police (not the real name) was the best waste of money, where they had 3 people call Nominet Members week in, week out if you showed the Nominet Logo on your site with just a pixel out or a size that was not one of the standard 3 sizes. Of course if you where a huge company they didn't say squat even though we all pay the same membership. In the end I just removed the logo as it's crap anyway .. I could go on and on but all I have to say to Nominet is I own nic.me.uk

easier just to fake the whois. some people make a big deal out of this - but no need to worry.

you still see a lot of the top generic .com and .co.uk 's have telephone numbers like +9999999 with a strange address. If anything were to happen regarding false whois they would be prime targets before any 2nd tier or non valuable domain.

theoretically, u can go to jail in the US for false whois data. Yet to be enforced. same way the 5 year old law of $100,000 for trademark and typosquting has never been enforced.

worst case scenario. if you were doing something dodgy and someone makes a really big fuss and complaint to your domain register. they might suspend/lock your domain as per the user agreement you signed when purchasing it.

i know guys who have gone through nominet several times for trademark disputes and lost the names. they own thousands of names with these fake whois details. Nominet knows they are fake. they dont do anything. the guys still have all their other names.

    Hi,

One of my domains is for sale - http://www.payforperformance.co.uk

This domain is not related to the services of OMGUK.com or of OMG's other domain http://www.pay4performance.co.uk although the OMD directors have been notified of the forthcoming intended sale of the payforperformance.co.uk domain name.

Whether or not this sways your interest is down to you but the bidding is open to anyone and comes with full legal rights as it was registered before OMG and http://www.pay4performance.co.uk's inception as a company.

If anyone else wants to place a bid visit the online auction at the site

    http://www.payforperformance.co.uk

Who said size doesnt count ?

    May the biggest bidder win

    Thanks

    Tiger

I had - but then I went to the pub. Can I retract my bid - looks like I might win.
