"A number of brokers have been stung by a lead generation firm direct debiting their accounts for £300 without providing any leads.Jason Gardiner, an appointed representative of The Mortgage Times Group, stumbled across premierleads.co.uk on the internet, which offered leads for £20 each, saying it would not debit his card until the day after he had received each lead.He sent off the necessary documentation but heard nothing more from the company until he checked his online account and found it had been debited £300.Kate Raybould, joint partner at Riverside Mortgage Solutions, says a similar thing happened at her firm. She says: "The moment we discovered money had been debited from our account we called the firm to say there had been a mistake. But it said it had decided to terminate our contract and therefore was taking £300."When Mortgage Strategy tried to contact premierleads.co.uk by phone, there was just an answerphone message and the firm had not responded at the time of writing.Raybould found the police uninterested so did her own detective work and found premierleads.co.uk was linked to a number of sites. With several brokers putting pressure on the firm to refund money, by the end of last week it had credited their accounts by £300.However, Raybould says: "This has tarnished my faith in lead generation firms. So many are internet-based and offer cheap leads. They make it seem so easy that many people apply."Mainstream lead generation firms say the case is a clear example of brokers having to be wary of the companies they give their bank details to.Vanessa Blount, head of paaleads.com, says: "Brokers should think carefully about which lead generation companies they choose to work with, looking for those with a good reputation, secure backing and a proven record of service."

This has caused a little stir in the mortgage market. Premier Leads main problem in my own personal opinion was offering a deal that wasn't commercially viable and as a result had to turn brokers away (and accidentally charge them £300).

I spoke to both guys in the article who had been ripped off and they both use Leadbay to purchase leads and are very happy with the leads we provide them.

Thanks to those of you who send mortgage leads our way.

Just to clear up any confusion, this is not LeadBay that I am referrring to here. Just had a call from one of my old business partners Chris who runs his mortgage leads through LeadBay and had seen my post, and he is very happy with them.

    Cheers
