i thought that they had ban greece....cause it spreaded out on forums and they minimized to 1 minute calls only -even if you have paid one euro... will check it and revert
i guess a lot of you can see im quite a pesimist, even though im not entirely sure how to spell the word, but im really quite chuckling how my thousand euro a month phone bill is now going to be jack diddly squat.
www.voipbuster.com
I have been using it for a while now, i thought it was rather basic looking and the website is pure amateur gimp at work but its really really good.
For me i got better call quality than skype (3MB connection) It seems theyre using a proprietory codec whích uses less bandwidth than skype, i have not been able to test it on dialup but it should work quite well even on that.
When you start you can call of the free countries on the list for free for a maximum time limit of 1 minute (AT FIRST) but top up your credit with just 1 euro and you can call them unlimited without charge so i been raping it and its great![]()

To be honest i havent got a clue about greece as per my other post you replied to KGP but from my understanding they are probably just giving away free calls just to incite beta testers to be honest.
I tend to be one of those people that keeps their mouth shut about things unless i really have been through it and i have racked up about 10 hours worth of continuous calls all over europe so far. Cant imagine greece is anything different now, though as it says on the site it is still in beta stage. Even so its the best beta i have seen.

well i used it in the beggining when they started offering the free calls to greek fixed numbers and after the beggining of june they stopped it and start charging... well thanks to you i learn that its up once again ;-)
btw the same thing happened with babble.net service -which i checked just to be sure ;-) - and they still charge greek fixed numbers, but for uk, USA (mainland), Germany, Australia and New Zealand its free...could you please give a feedback in case you try this as well... it would be good to know

For UK calls I use www.call18866.co.uk
All UK calls are 2p fixed cost all day.
(Not 2p per minute - 2p total)
Our bill has been slashed.
300 calls cost £6!
well if you do what pricethat does.... it will get to nearly zero ;-)

I have used VOIPbuster for quite a while to call all UK landlines... reg with just 1 Euro and you get unlimited calls.... saves a fortune![]()
I assume I'm right in thinking that with all this VOIP system you have to have your PC turned on to make a call and you can't walk around the home/office chatting like you can on a DECT phone?
I'm happy at 2p a call when I still get normal phone usability.
If VOIP is just as good as using a DECT but free then great!
Yes and no, all of these VOIP services like skype and voip buster use certain protocols and there are special DECT phones that you can buy and configure them to use any voip service but obviously you will need to buy a handset, theres some dect ones for less than a hundred quid, worth spending on considering the huge price savings.
Skype offer a dect handset but there calls to landlines are about a penny a min i think, so you could buy a ready configured skype one and still save loads but have to pay something or buy one and learn how to config it to voipbuster or any other your thinking about.
I quite like the idea of 2p a call as well, maybe for times when the internets down or something would be good, well i think between that little lot we can now call pretty much anywhere for nowt, not bad eh
Any others that are free or next to nothing?
Nothing to see here...
So does anyone know a handset that will work with VOIP buster? Even just a USB one would do me.
Thanks Pricethat. Useful explanation.
Cheers
Ang.
I can't register - as soon as I click on register it says there has been an unknown error, and then when I click OK it tries to contact the server anyway but comes up with a connection error. It's not my firewall blocking it si I don't know if it new registrations are turned off at the moment.
well pricethat i can only name babble.net but i cant compare it at the momment in greece -not free- i would like your feedback on that.
moreover how are you doing in terms of lag with voicebuster? i even had 7 secs delay on some calls... and some others even more!!!!
skype so far seems to be the best although not free.
btw there are adaptors that "converts" your regular phones to be able to accept and make phonecalls via your computer, meaning that you can have a dect phone connected to the pc and be whereever in the house.
bare in mind though that this is not highly recommended...you can not make emergency calls via skype, voicebusters and others and they have it on the ToS
