  My Website

Dear All,

This is my first posting of hopefully many on this forum....

Please could you take a quick look at my site and give me your first impressions.

It is a driving resource site for drivers/motorists in the UK - each section individually branded for each of the following - advanced drivers, learner drivers, competition track drivers, motorcyclists

www.driversdomainuk.com

Also, a main "earning" page I am promoting for Car Data Checks from The AA:

www.driversdomainuk.com/vehicle_data_check.php

I have taken a slightly unusual approach designing this page - it is an idea taken from the Autotrader marketing communications "find your ideal partner" - you may have heard on the radio - apparently spoof "love" themes in advertising tends to attract a fair bit of attention, so am giving it a try!!! again, let me know your views

Thanks all

Hi.

My first impressions is that it has nothing that suits me and nothing that makes me want to click on any of the links. I am a driver and I enjoy driving but maybe I just don't want to visit a site about driving. Maybe add something to the homepage that makes the visitor immediately attracted to something.

Thanks for your reply, but I guess that could be said for all sites - if you are not interested in the site's theme you would never visit it in the first place (unless of course you are reviewing it here!), just the same as if someone visited an art shop for example - it's unlikely you would want to waste any time seeing what they sell if you were not interested in the first place!...I will stop rambling now...!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers

Hi,

I think what Toon(*) is trying to ask is who is the site
aimed at and why should I, the visitor, be interested
in your site?

For example:

Is your site the only site that focusses on driving?

Does it feature up-to-date articles on driving, written
from a unique perspective?

In short, what makes your site special?

Unfortunately, words like
Quote:
Welcome to Drivers Domain UK-The #1 Domain for Drivers in the UK
Whatever Your Passion We Have It Sorted:
dont' really mean anything, in my humble opinion.

(*) I may of course be wrong, Toon?

Steve

Hi Steve,

You are right - I do often get this reply when I ask for a "critical analysis" of the website.

What I believe makes the site special - well perhaps thats a little OTT to describe a driving website, but basically it aims to be website built from four sections (each of which are indiv branded - for learner drivers, advanced drivers, track drivers and motorcyclists) currently, I have noticed that there are plently of racing track driving websites and lots of advanced driving websites etc....but most have a single focus and frangmented (i.e advanced driving etc). By comparisson, my site aims to build awareness and promote interest in these four areas of motoring, using a universal brand (Drivers Domain UK)

The site is only a start to my plans, as I am launching a driving school (which will be promoted on the Learner Driver section) and also a Fleet driver advanced driving development section (which will be promoted on the advanced driver section - again, using the Drivers Doamin UK - Advanced Driver brand....so there is quite a large off line focus to the business which I guess goes beyond the scop of this forum.

Thanks Again

Hi,

Whatever makes your site special - and you have plenty of ideas -
should be self-evident on the home page.

I've just read Steve Krug's book called Don't Make Me Think
all about web usability. Could I politely suggest you buy/read
it - it's certainly changed how I design my sites, several
times

Steve

Ps book is available at Amazon etc.
