Info-packed pdf files

Complete newbie question :

I'm considering setting up a niche website, and the subject-matter is so diverse, specific, interlinked, etc, I think I need to get the info into pdf files accessible from the site. I'd like to be able to make some dosh (frankly) out of making the info available to all and sundry. Can it be done ?

I'd be grateful for any pointers.

A bit more detail would be good.

If you're talking from a technical point of view, then yes, creating pdfs is easy.

If you're talking from a business point of view, you'd have to tell us what the information is about. However, remember that information is effectively free on the web, so in most cases you'll probably have a hard time trying to sell it. I'm sure there would be exceptions where you're talking niche situations though.

Are you trying to make money out of content, via Adsense say,
or do you mean you want to sell ebooks (in PDF format), or do
you mean you want to sell access to your site (and the content
on it)?

Yes, I appreciate my post was a tad vague.

In actual fact, I'm considering several possible niche sites. My initial post was just a general enquiry, to try to establish whether I could find some way of charging for pdf files. I guess 'e-books' in pdf format is what I'm on about.

They're all quite narrow niches, but it never ceases to amaze me what info's already on the net. It may be subject-matter that's been done-to-death already (although I've failed to find much on the subject during my [hasty and so far short-lived] research).

Could someone / anyone tell me how the e-books thing works, please?
