    Hi guys & gals,

I'm the newest of the newbies with a website under construction and ideas bouncing around inside my head. I hope you don't mind me bothering you in the coming months with questions that might seem blindingly obvious.

I have identified a theme that I would like to develop in the travel sector. The website will be based on a specific country and be content rich. As this particular country is close to my heart it's definitely a labour of love and my primary aim is to deliver a content rich site. If I can attract enough eyballs to it then I would also like to try to channel people into related affiliate links.

    My first question is this-

Is is easy to find relevant affiliate schemes for a niche website ? Airline and hotel schemes are not much use if they are not going to include this particular country.

Do you tend to identify affiliate schemes first and then build your website around that or am I on firm ground in building a website first and then trying to hunt for relevant affiliates ?

My last question is what do you think is more important in terms of building a solid, profitable website ?:- a content rich site with lots of original information that isn't actually earning you any money but the potential to capitalise on it's popularity in the future OR a low content website with well structured affiliate links that is geared solely to make you money.

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Lo there

1st and this sort of answers the 1st two is, if your niche market is the usa etc then you can do what ever you want build a site get merchants.... away you go but say if you niche market was time share in Iraq then i think youll have a hard time trying to get any site off the ground

a content rich site with lots of original information that isn't actually earning you any money but the potential to capitalise on it's popularity in the future

how do you know it wont make money unique content is proberly the best thing for a site if youve not got a lot of unqiue stuff then your end up ppc pretty soon

OR a low content website with well structured affiliate links that is geared solely to make you money.

dosent matter if you put bells on it youll find that the search engines may not like you and if people cant find you then whats the point

id go with your 1st idea if you can write unique content about a place you love go with that, i would rather read somthing interesting than visit a site that goes blah blah blah links all over the place arrrrrrrrrggggggggggg wheres that box in the right hand corner .... ooooh look a nice structured link system ...... click see ya

but thats just me .......... but im not alone

The travel sector is well-represented, so if it's a reasonably popular destination you have a good chance of finding something related.

From a business point of view, it is best to identify what people are searching for first and then build a website around that. There will normally be affiliate schemes related to popular search terms. There is no point in building a website extolling the virtues of say, Tajikistan, if no-one is searching on "holiday in Tajikistan". Traffic = Success.

You should be targetting areas that have the potential to be profitable today. It's no good building a site for say a country that you expect to be popular in five year's time. This is a fast moving game and people will follow the profitable sectors, so once that country becomes popular, everyone else will jump in. Target a sector that people are already looking for, you can always move into new areas later.

Building content rich sites, which have lots of unique text and useful articles, is always a good idea, will help get you found by the search engines and should get you a higher Google rating.

Good luck and welcome to the affiliate space

    Best regards
