What is your long term vision to be in this industry?

Just wondering what the differing views will be in this matter.
I know for some people to do this every day until they drop would drive
them completely nuts and also some people like a change of career every now and then anyway. Others though like stability and I am planning this thing right into retirement. Why because I like the hours, flexibility , creativity and I decide my income To do this I have to look long term outside of the search engines and make sure I can obtain traffic from other sources for many years, etc.
I'm 38 now so, let's say I have another 20 plus years to get to the normal retirement age I could retire at 50 but I don't really see the point. When I do nothing or I just do travelling and recreation I get quite bored after a short period. Even now I can only really stand the best places in the world for a max of one week b4 I get bored and want to get back to business and familiar surroundings.

So to sum it up there's nothing like a job well done IMO and long may it reign in the AM world

just going with the flow really, but not untill stuff burns out. if someone offered me a big wad of cash for all my sites and domains id be gone, id probably be back a few years later (when the wad ran out) but you just dont know.

always looking for new stuff to do / get into. granted i love doing AM but recently my income has become a little unpredictable, like pete said in another thread when someone asked why would anyone want to work for a network rather than be an affiliate - you know what your going to get paid, and when.

yeah so im wingin it at the mo

The way I see it, AM is becoming more and more unpredictable. The majority of money that comes out of this is going into a more stable investment, but I'd never give up on what is effectively easy money, for the time being.

I agree with morley, although I can understand that those amongst us who have more serious financial commitments and a family to support will be attracted to the affiliate networks for the stability of a guaranteed wage.

    Agree with Dunkirk and morleymouse.

I don't think there's a long term future for affiliates to make money in the manner they have become accustomed to. I find it quite interesting to see that several superaffilates I knew from a few years back have moved into other fields; many are now working for merchants.

I know some people get a kick out of it and wouldn't do anything else in the world, but I for one don't get any pleasure out of spending hours infront of a computer trying to get a script to work or ripping my hair out trying to decipher why a network's content units/feeds are not working. There's no stability in this field: everything's in a state of constant flux. Is bearable in the short term, but if one's been doing it day in, day out for seven years it gets a bit much.

I'll be outta the field as soon as I can. It might sound heretical to say it on a forum like this, but there's far more interesting things to do in life than sit in front of a computer all day adding and removing affiliate links. I used to be a journalist reporting on games at France '98, for instance, interviewing fans and footballers; far more fun.

I am planning this thing right into retirement. Why? because I really enjoy working in internet business. But I might quit from my previous internet business, and jump into another if there is better offer.
And at last I hope I do have my own business in few years.

Will the going is good I'm stashing the cash away and in a fantasy world I would have my own bricks and mortar business such as an internet cafe or preferably a private poker club where I would sit and play poker with real people for social interaction every day playing a game I love and relatively good at (not professional yet!!!)

The money's good from AM but the isolation and solitude working for yourself is pretty rubish without any social interaction. That's why I'm going to use the money from the internet to diversify my business interests into other things therefore minimising the risks if one of the industries or businesses goes belly up will still have other interests.

For me i no longer get satisfaction in earning money as its almost too easy, I'm looking for more job or business satisfaction on other non financial basis.

I could retire early too but I'd still be bored with all that time to kill so i'd rather be doing something for the fun of it, if i can get paid for having fun then even better.
