I've been looking at getting some software to manage my opt-in mailing list. I used to send email manually, but it's getting a bit too big for that now. I downloaded some software mentioned in another thread Worldcast which looks really good. However on my first mail shot all of the Hotmail and AOL addresses bounced. I used the direct DNS method and these mail servers seemed to have a problem accepting 'bulk mail' from my residential IP address.

I tried the SMTP option, but nothing came through on my own test email address, so I've got no way of knowing if the people on the list received anything.

Can anyone recommend an alternative mailing list manager or a way of getting around this problem?

Do you have a link?, or could you pm me some info? I'm currently using outlook but it's getting a pain to administer it by hand.

One thing to note that if your wanting a mailing list manager to also tell you if people received them then you will always have rejected emails from places like hotmail and yahoo. Most mailing managers use a tracking image inside the body of the email which of course the recipient opens and it calls the image from your server. Most free email sites and spam guards use this as an identifier to mark them as spam.

With reference to mailing list managers "phplist" has always done dozens of my friends and i fine for years and many many functions/subscribe/unsubscribe etc.

Have a look for it on google and have a play.
    Nothing to see here...

I used Interspire Sendstudio for a while on a list of about 10K and it was really good value.

It deals with clearing up bounces, automatic unsubscribes, single or double opt-ins to the list and all sorts, as well as tracking opens & clicks.

It does some quite cool automated stuff like email series that go out X hours after a new user has signed up so you can follow up with a whole series of sales messages.
