I have also got Price Tapestry running side by side so its a good comparison.
I have contacted Pricethat, and got some costs, but I will wait for them to post their costs as I don't think its my place to post on their behalf.

Sig should show various sites, but I can't be bothered at the mo.![]()
I've been playing about with this most of the weekend, a pretty powerful set of scripts, the way it displays identical products in the product search isn't good, but that's about the only thing I don't like about it. It is a pretty quick way of creating 100,000 page site from product feeds.Originally Posted by Shane

I'd also be interested to hear quotes from Pricethat - can I have a pm please mate
Yup, I've had price Tapestry working for exactly 7 minutes now (I bought it about 20 minutes ago), and it's nice and quick to get up and running, let down only by struggling to import massive files and a fairly basic text search, which is pretty easy to rewrite. Easily worth the 45 quid just for being able to consolidate lots of products into one database, and from the looks of the forums there are some nice updates due soon to let you do stuff like load feeds remotely.
I had some issues loading big datafiles where it would just goto a blank screen or timeout after a minute, I contacted David who suggested the my webhost may have a max execution time for a php script, webhosting support confirmed they did. I was able to get round this by SSH into the server and running the import script (php ./import.php @ALL) which worked fine.Originally Posted by lowndsy

The majority of my feeds were fine, up to about 24Mb. The only one it bombed out on was Woolworths, at 243Mb, but thats understandable.Originally Posted by dancey

Via ssh it was fine.

Not very well at the moment.Originally Posted by Keith
With different feed from AW and TD etc, you have to modify each feed file to fit within the import structure.
Its a bit of a PITA actually.![]()

Hi peoples,
Just to let you know that i would probably recommend the price tapestry scripts if your a beginner to price comparison or want to just offer a limited amount of products.
But one thing i would advise to anyone that hasnt got huge experience is that just because it is a feed based script doesnt mean its going to be easy. You will find the more you get into it the more labour you will have to put into it to keep it all running. That then brings in the question of where you will earn your money from if your spending all day working on your price comparison site.
For the most part, kelkoo, pricerunner etc have a team of people inserting products and matching their merchants products with their records, BIG teams whereas if your like me your going to only have 1 or 2 people to do the job. Its a fulltime job just managing all the feeds and techy stuff if your doing a price comparison site yourself.
For those that did ask, a single installation of our "affiliate" software is 5000 pounds, a very very big price jump from the pricetapestry scripts which for the money are excellent. However like for like i think you will probably find our tools do around 300 - 500 other tasks besides what the pricetapestry offers and to develop yourself would cost you much more to develop.
So, i guess in summary, if you are new to it then pricetapestry and others will be great, if you are planning to hit it big time then you need much more sophisticated tools with many more admin functions and remote 24 hour a day updating etc then your going to need to spend the money i guess. Add to that a lot of time, even with 5 people on the case we still do not have enough staff to completely run a "proper" price comparison site, all the code is there to do it, but you still need someone to manually press those buttons and build the categories.
Hope thats of some help.
