Good points raised.
Since registering the domains I've managed to find out where you can opt out on 123reg. Once you have registered the domains you then log into the control panel and there is a whois opt out option.
A lot of use that is now
I'll update the contact details and sort it out via Nominet as these are sites that will be saleable in the future and I want to avoid any hassle.
I prefer opting out for a variety of reasons - Google is one of them, spam and privacy is another.
To expand on the Google point - I own a varity of authority sites in one niche and I'm currently expanding in that region. It is a documented fact that Google own a patent that allows them to check whois data for sites - I crosslink and interlink these sites, a process that could be considered some kind of manipulation of the SEs if I were to dominate the results for that niche (and my sites were of questionable quality / use to the end user).
Google could ban or penalise my sites at the flick of a switch because they know all of my whois data - a quick check to see what sites I own and then I'm wiped out.
From a business point of view I'm covering my bases incase I get wiped in an algo change and using these sites to my advantage by cross linking to get indexed quickly / bleed PR and a variety of other SEO tactics that my clients pay me for (feel free to PM for SEO work).
I'd rather just remain as anonymous to Google as I possibly can incase they get trigger happy.
