Business opportunities in China?

I've been reading more and more recently about the expanding Chinese market and it does seem very tempting.

Just wondered if anyone else has done research on the potential opportunities / considered putting some sites together targetting China?

Or are the barriers (language, etc etc) too great for your typical bootstrap operation?

As far as I'm aware there aren't really any 'affiliate networks' out there currently, but I'm sure that will change. Plus I would imagine there are other 'non-affiliate' type opportunities.

Your thoughts?

- zanox have a chinese site / office. I dont know if they have any merchants yet, because their chionese site is in Chinese .
- yesasia are based in Hong Kong but mainly sell Chinese and other Asian products to the rest of the world. they have an affiliate program on webgains.

i would say you really need chinese if you do any online marketing in China itself. Conversion rates can be very low, but because of the large number you can make good business.

yes obviously you need access to someone who speaks / can write chinese!
