Hi James,
They have been up to this for years. Like you say they just use trawled whois records. They used to try and scam out almost a hundred quid a year per domain and i bet quite a few business owners fell for it. Scammers who just keep changing their name ever so slightly, but the paperwork is usually the same - eagle & flag logo? I don't seem to have had any recently for recent name registrations as they draw towards renewal, but I still get them for a lot of domains that are more than a couple of years old. Their letters were even more deceptive I seem to remember but they were ordered to make it a bit clearer ( which they did in tiny type) that it was information only and not an invoice.

I bet they don't make it easy to transfer away from them once they've got you either At £18 their conversion rate from potential sucker to paying sap must be above 1%. Can imagine them fighting tooth and nail to keep any names with an umpteen stage process to unlock the name and get it away once it's with them - the kind of time consuming jumping through hoops that a lot of business bods will just give up on and pay the cash.

Yeah, we've been getting these for years - straight into the shredder but we do get our web design customers phoning us up about them so it's pretty widespread - pity they don't have reply paid envelopes so we could fill them with spam and return 'em.

LOL. I don't think we engage in enough of that. Short term boost in the arm for the PO (paying to prevent local PO closures) and long term reduction in the amount of unsolicited junk we all get

I tell you what we could do. Is place a blank bit of paper in to the envelope and post it with out a stamp.

They will then have to pay the postage!! :-) :-)

As there would be no stamp on it!

If the stamp is missing the person at the other end has to pay for the postage osa

Sadly, in this case, not.
You can refuse delivery of any item if you don't want to pay.

You could always write "Payment enclosed" on the outside of the envelope...
