Text links v's Banners?

I've always been under the impression that text links out perform banners
do others share this view?
Just recently though I have noticed that a banner on page with 4 or 5 text
links is doing a lot better than the text links.
Ha anyone ever done any research as to which are best?

Text links every time in my opinion, with few exceptions. People dismiss banners as advertising but see text links as personal recommendations.

Got to agree with you both.
It might just a one off and more to do with the positioning. But my page has
4 text links on to 4 merchants and 2 banners. And the merchants with the
banners seem to be doing a lot better.
