I have been after a domain name for ages and on the 24th it finally expires. What happens on the 24th if its not renewed?

I really am desperate for it!

    any suggestions

If you're serious about wanting to pick up the domain as it drops you'll need to be proactive. If the domain is any good at all there will be someone (probably loads of domain traders) waiting to pick it up as it drops.
I've picked up a few I wanted using enom, I'd recommend you open an account now and have a play to see how it works and you should be in with a chance by the 24th. I've also used dropcatcher and snapnames but no luck using them on several occasions.
If someone else bags the domain I've also used Sedo to act on my behalf and would recommend them.

I've used Pool.com for the ones I wanted & got them OK. Snapnames weren't so successful.

If it's a .co.uk the domain may not be avaliable for registration for sometime. Acorndomains have a great forum that deal with domain names and has some great info.

after it expires, you'll have to wait a bit longer. but put in your enom order now.

    Very good question

    Wikipedia says:
The company eNom, Inc. is a domain name registration and services technology company founded in 1998 in Redmond, WA, and is the 3rd largest registrar of domain names according to RegistrarStats. As of August 2005, eNom claims to "manage" almost 7 million domain names. eNom is a major resellers of domain names, thus all domains registered through its registrar aren't all customers of eNom.

Not sure if that helped - i'm still bewildered

Don't take that for granted. Get an enom account and pre-order it.

Dropcatcher got me a nice domain a year or so ago. I sure there would have been one or two people looking out for it as well.

Bear in mind that if you had a trademark on the term, you would be likely to be able to take the domain off anyone who managed to register it before you, via the Nominet DRS procedure.

DC have stopped being very effective as every man and their dog has catching software now.

To catch a .co.uk head over to www.acorndomains.co.uk and arrange a bounty on the name with a private catcher.

Do not publically post the domain in question or everyone will reg it just to take the piss.

Feel free to PM me or email me on rob @ username and I can point you in the right direction .

    Cheers,
    Rob.

Does hardrockbar.co.uk get decent traffic? I ask as for the life of me I cant understand why people get involved in these disputes, the paperwork, the research etc etc.

Unless you enjoy playing political games of chess with these people as a hobby of course
