This could form an interesting debate...

I setup a site last May and the first 10 months were pretty poor on all levels then around March of this year my site came out of the google sandbox and all my efforts were starting to show.

My traffic went up 1000% in the first month and has continued to grow. HOWEVER, it is not the sort of traffic i initially set the site up for.

It appears that whilst optimising for some very tough areas I accidentally started to do well in a smaller area. I recently did some stat research and currently around 80% of my traffic is now for the smaller area/niche that I found.

I have enough content to keep those 80% happy, but I am wondering if i should change the site to cater fully for the 80% as opposed to the current setup which is that the site is setup for the 20%.

If I change the theme of the site then it would mean that the majority of the backlinks I have gained over the past 12 months wouldnt be as relevent, I would also need to re-do the main pages and change all of the adverts.

I think that the 80% are currently getting the information that they are searching for, but I am not getting any sales etc from them. To do that I would need to change the site to fulfill their needs.

So should i stick my original plan and keep optimising for the topìcs that the site was intended for? or do I give in to people power and focus on the 80%?

    Your thoughts please.

expand your content to attain sales from the 80%...
it maybe that the original subject is ambiguous but is still too popular a subject that your specific content results in the 20% also leaving without making a sale...
You can add new links both ways on the 80% traffic subject matter and further increase popularity on the site as a whole.
