Just thought to share this correspondence between me and someone who
calls herself an "affiliate manager" of a travel site

I noticed that on their order (booking) page they have two additional
options (expect the standart booking form) - "Reserve via Fax"
and email. I asked their affiliate manager how exactly they track affiliate
sales made via fax and email and the answer I received is below:

"We track clicks and/or reservations coming from your websites throgh cookies (...)
Doesn't matter the way the client confirm the booking, by email or fax.. we track them anyway."

Obviously there is some new tracking method, which I'm not aware on
So, I hope if anyone can throw light on how can be tracked bookings made via fax???
Printing and sending cookies via fax!?

I won't tell you what answer I received when I asked for a product feed ...

I run a site which prints the affiliates ID on the fax/postal order form when printed, so I know who to associate the sale for. Of course it is down to the affiliate manager if they credit the sale to this user as it needs to be inputted by hand.

I already tested. No such a possibility. Just print and send - no affiliate ID, nothing.

I have had a similar situation, I too am an affiliate manager and have asked my client to remove the direct telephone number from the website homepage when a customer has clicked to the site via an affiliate site, because it's totally unrealistic to believe any one has the time to input and analyze click through data all the way to a transaction that would just take far too much time and energy.

name the site so other affiliates can confirm what your saying and then perhaps get it put right or dump em and let it be known that their a dodgy outfit and not to touch them with a bargepoll
