    Hi

I have setup Adwords etc but apart from 1 sale on Sunday things aren't really happening yet.

Is it better to point each keyword to the actual page containing the products searched or the home page?

I would say directing the customer exactly to what they want to buy is always the best choice - don't make them think about it.

Unless the homepage is filled with other exciting new offers or a special new product. I find creating a series of landing pages for a variety of 'categories' something that affiliates find helpful. In addition, if there is something special you can offer on these landing pages unique to the PPC customers this give an incentive to buy.

Separate pages. If you have say a consumer electronics site, send the traffic for plasma's to the plasma page and the digital radios to the dab page. If you are trying to sell something, then don't make the visitor have to find it themselves, however intuitive your navigation is. This gets more important the deeper you go. If you are bidding on a specific product like say the 'sinclair ZX81', you are going to get more luck sending traffic to a page with dedicated info and call to actions on the zx81 than a general electronics page or even general computer page. Give the user what they are searching for, or they will more than likely move on.

    Excellent ...

Thanks for the help and advice.

Amanda - Are you with an Affiliate Network and if so which one? I knew I'd seen your company name but couldn't remember it exactly. I would like to add your products to my site and I must have spent 3 hours last night looking. Now you've replied to my message ... spooky !!

    Cheers

basic rule of ppc landing pages.. the more relevant the landing page products on show to the keyword and adcopy ..better the conversion..

but there is nothing wrong with having similar alternative choices on the page.. ie

so as an example for a page for anyone who searched for bt broadband, on bt broadband related terms rather than generic broadband .... (just an example !) .. have bt broadband as the focus on the landing page... straight in front of their eyes when they land... nice big, clear and inviting .. do a bit of preselling... highlight the good points etc..

then if you want.. below that.. show an alternative broadband product or two..three etc. that may be cheaper or different specs in case they might not want the high / low spec the merchant offers that they searched for...

but it should still as relative as possible.. ie broadband packages.. not mobile phones.. sure you will make the (very) odd cross sale like that but no where near as good ROI as if it's as relevant as possible and a viable alternative choice.

once you've done your bt page with bt as the focus then do a page for orange with them as the foucs but bt and a couple of others lower down.. etc.. create an orange adgroup with orange related ad copy and use orange related keywords and send to your orange page..

.. relevancy.. but choice too ..
