Hi all, I'm fairly new to this forum, and web development in general, but I've been plotting my master plans for the best part of a year now.

What I really would like to know from everyone here is:

What are the most profitable industries to develop affiliate websites for?

Many of you will probably be supporting affiliate schemes in some way and surely it is of common interest for anyone looking to develop their opportunities to know what are the most profitable industries to develop websites for. Time is of the essence for most of us and a few early pointers in the best directions will pay dividends.

I would suggest Travel (inl. Hotels, Holidays, Travel Insurance) is very profitable, but I hesitate to say much more. Any other suggestions??

    Finance.

I am not in finance, so obviously I'm an expert ;-)

You'll be most successful in the long run if you pursue a vertical that interests you, (well except Morris Dancing) AM is not a way to make money quick.

Finance and Gambling (that’s a guess as I don’t do either!!) , but they are also the 2 hardest to get into.

It is pretty pointless asking seasoned affiliates a question like that as they get a bit taken aback at the why they should answer or give advice to a newbie when it has taken them years to find out what sells and what doesn’t.

The Americans refer to "PPC" standing for "pills, porn and casino"
Its no coincidence that most of the email spam is also on these subjects too

Shortly after that is finance and other forms of gambling

They are also the most competetive too unsurprisingly

Never argue with idiots. They just drag you down to their level and then beat you with their experience.

i sort of had a hunch about finance. it's so strictly regulated though - that puts me off more than the competitivity.

Actually it depends on a whole load of factors. Remember we're talking profit.

The affiliate programmes with the higher paying commissions will also be the ones with the most competition. Therefore they're likely to be comparatively more expensive to promote. A lead for a credit card might pay £40 in commission, but it may take £35 to acquire that customer. Alternatively you might make £10 commission on the sale of a golf club with free traffic you get via SEO.

So it's a balance of how much commission is paid and how much it costs to acquire the traffic. The industries that pay the highest commissions are not necessarily the most profitable by any means.

But then you also need to consider volume. You might make that £5 profit on the credit card three times a day but only sell the golf club once a day. So you're making more money with the credit cards, but it's still costing you a lot more to keep the operation running.

If I was starting out, there's no way I would try and battle my way into the highly competitive markets.

thats true, i have studied both the industries that is Finance and mobile phones both offering upto £20 - £40 for Finance its per lead where as for Mobile Phone Industry its per Sale. but when you check out the other half you will find that the competetion on loan and finance industry is touching expancive hikes it will cost you about £15 to stay at number 1 position in search engines like overture and google.. if you are willing to spend some money considring a long term prospect with this industry then only you can afford a ppc program because once you Catch UP a good CTR rate in your google Adwords account your actule expence will drop to about £2 per click or even below considring that you are on no. 1 position where as when you go the other way around on Mobile Phone Industry its all together a different story ... here you can even bid in pennies.. for decent positions.. and if you want to stretch even further it wil go at most upto £3 per click and that too might be comming from a brand itself..

    So buddy choice is yours...

Basically, depends how much you want to earn and what are competition, can you uncover some unique angle or you're powerplayer and will beat top guys with straight forward marketing. It's quite lot up to you.

It can be as simple as Adsense making you 100$ (50 pounds) month, or it can be some DVD rentals, or it can be hosting packages or dating stuff, or it can be male enhancement paying up to 175$ per sale (www.MoreNiche.com).
You also should want to have hands on great support from affiliate program!

    Good luck!
