Dear All

We are working closely with a number of networks and agencies to help develop a guide to better educate senior marketing and ecommerce folk about the Affiliate Marketing industry – This is being driven by the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) www.iabuk.net

Over the years I have often heard the complaint on these forums and when speaking to affiliates that you guys are rarely asked your opinion or for comment on these issues and articles that appear in the industry press regarding affiliate marketing. So, I suggested to the IAB that we get some affiliates involved with this project and they were very enthusiastic about the idea.

So, now is your chance to have your say and help us educate senior decision makers so that the opportunities and issues in affiliate marketing are heard at the highest level – something that will benefit us all in the long run!

Topics include:

1. Why is there a need for an affiliate channel?
2. Advantages/disadvantages of closed and open programs
3. Best practice for an affiliate program

If you are serious about affiliate marketing and have some opinions you would like heard then this is for you.

The IAB are looking for about 3 or 4 affiliates and will invite you to the next Affiliate Council meeting (London, September 12th) to discuss the document in progress.

Do you like groups like you have for online advertising which are affiliate focused? Where merchants networks, affiliates and advertisers can come together to discuss, learn and network? Especially here in London?

I think with all the Google, Spyware, cookie and feed data issues, we need to have an arena where we all can come together and hammer out these issues and will help us get solutions.

Hi Jai

There have been some in-roads to setting up an Affiliate Association which I think would probably be exactly what you mention. This was initiated by some of the users on this forum.

The IAB project I mention is primarily to eduacte more senior figures in the industry about Affiliate Marketing so although the issues you mention are very important and will be mentioned to some degree, it isn't quite the place to set standards and hammer out the issues. This will be best left to the Affiliate Association I think. Hopefully, further progress will be made with the Affiliate Association in the near future.
