    Hi

For about 36 hours now, I haven't been receiving email
sent to (several) domains hosted by a particular company.
Some of these email accounts are just forwarded to
Gmail and they are not showing either, so I don't think
    it's my ISP's fault.

So I was wondering: why does email get 'lost'?

(I've had a couple of bounces when I send email
to one of these domains saying "it's been trying
for 4 hours and it won't give up for another 24 hours".)

Can anybody help here. I guess my understanding of
how email gets sent across the "tubes" is pretty basic.

I've contacted my web host and they have so far not
responded which is really helpful and has helped me decide
to move all of my domains from them sooner rather than
    later.

I know there are more important things happening in the
world right now (terrorist alerts, airport delays, traffic
jams...) but I kinda miss my email

    Cheers
    Steve

are the domains and the hosting by the same company,

forwarded domains should be sent without touching your servers so if they're not then I would be looking to who handles them.

I find that when email doesnt go to the correct account it finds its way to my catchall account, if you have 1 set-up try there.

is outgoing email been sent ok?

either thier inbox is full, theyve setup spam filters which bounce your email (could be they dont like the email service you are sending from) or theyre having service problems at the time, or as you said its forwarding to an inbox other than the one you email to in which case just email directly the the main inbox, maybe they misspelt the email address their programme forwards to and the inbox doesnt exist, or the inbox just doesnt exist full stop.

    I think that covers everything.

    Hi

Andy, I can set up pop3 email addresses via the hosting company so
I guess that means the domain and hosting are same (they're registered
with another company, though - Freeparking. I think I point email to
    the hosting company!)

I also don't have any catchall accounts - too much spam. Maybe if
I set one up, it might help as a test!

And outgoing email is being sent fine.

limboInternet, it's not just email being forwarded to Gmail
that's not working, it's emails that I receive via outlook
(I just mention Gmail as otherwise it might have been
    my ISP's problem).

Anyway, I will check out Freeparking and the catchall email thingy

    Cheers
    Steve
