    Hi,

I know that's a bit of a vague question, but I have an
idea for a website - bit interactive I guess (question
and answer sort of thing) - and I'm trying to think how
to make the site more fun and compelling.

I'm not bothered about aff. marketing or adsense or
anything like that - just trying to build a site for fun,
I guess like I once did (ah, remember the days!).

So, any ideas? (I guess it will help if you don't suggest I build
    a Google.com or myspace.com as I have a limited amount
of time and even more limited amount of technical skills! Lol)

I know this is vague, so maybe if you don't have any ideas
you can just tell me of some sites that you visited that
    were fun.

Should make for an interesting thread, at least (Shouldn't
it? Or do I *really* need to learn about what 'fun' is? Lol)

So, what makes a website fun? Examples, or ideas please!

    Cheers,
    Steve

    Hey Steve

I think there are a few things that can make a website fun. Making it as interactive as possible (which i think you're already considering) really adds to the fun-factor.
I think design is also really important- if the overall feel of the website is engaging, with bright colours and quirky pictures, that can make it seem more fun.
Perhaps if you're really good with flash, or know someone who is, you could design some games for people to play??

Obviously not a definative answer- i suppose its all a matter of individual taste!!

urg flash... the one thing I could never figure out how to use... someday.... someday...

Interactivity is the easiest way to make a website fun, maybe do a silly section of the site where the user has to make choices and hae say 2 links to different choices to progress through the section. something silly short and fun, obviousely if you want to appeal to return visitors that would be a pisser to keep updating but itd be fun the first time if you just leave it.

Thank you very much for the laugh Pricethat but not quite what
    I had in mind. Lol

I like the other suggestions and this was what I had in mind.

I guess I could think of some kind of web 2.0(!) social networking
thingy, but I am not that techie and am not a flash programmer

    Steve

Ps I always look at Web User magazine's section called 'people clicking on'
    for ideas

you can buy social networking scripts nowerdays pre made, just gotta know where to look, or hire yourself a good programmer to make one. Of course youll find your networking site will automatically neich itself lol just due to whichever users end up using it most.
