I have a few review pages on one of my sites but haven't got any reviews.
What is the best way of getting them (preferably favourable ones)?
I put a message on my pages asking for reviews to be sent in, but have
received very few, and those I have received have always been negative.
Do other review sites make them up or pay people to write ones for them, or
does anyone offer a review writing service?
    TIA.

T.J., it is very characteristic that people would voice out the negative feedback and hold the good one to themselves (unless it is so good that they can't keep quiet)... I have found out that cash always works best with reviews. Set up a prize draw (£XX to be given away daily/weekly/monthly) for all those that take the time to do the review. That's how Shopzilla motivates...

Reviews on what? merchants, holidays, films?

If you're desperate, try a freelancer site.

But as has been said, prizes work if you'rv the traffic and customer base already or partner with a merchant and give special discounts to those that submit their reviews.

For some subjects (especially consumer products) a geek like me (but probably not me, I'm too busy) can help with scraper scripts too extract content from other sites. Usually legitimately too - plenty of sites have a creative commons or GPL license for their content. The easiest ones are movies, dvds, books etc.

    Pay writers for unique content.

Though maybe scraping freely available articles would be a good started as it is difficult to get the first person to wrote a review or comment!
