    Hi every one.

I have a website which has over 25k page impressions per month and Traffic is very generic . Can anyone tell me if there is any chance of making money by displaying banner on CPM basis and which network to choose also what do they roughly pay. I have no idea how banner advertising etc works..

    Any Suggetions would be great.

    Thanks

Where does the majority of the traffic come from? What sort of category is your website? This sort of information is important in order to recommend a CPM network and suggest a possible rate range.

The difference between affiliate marketing (CPA) and CPM networks is risk. CPA is the ultimate lazy option for advertisers because they don't really need to do anything and don't lose money unless an affiliate is dodgy.

With CPM the advertiser pays a constant fee for banner views and along with the network's technology, it attempts to target the adverts to the correct people. This means that you can relax or work on something else while the advertiser and the network does all the hard work.

Obviously theres a chance providing that the banner content is relevant to your users.

An example, the Vodafone banner at the top of my screen right now is not relevant to me, so I wont click it.

But another forum I was on was offering a PR6 link free for 60 days. I clicked it.

Many find adwords a good solution as the ads are virtually guaranteed to be relevant to the content which, afterall, is why your users are their!

    Hello everyone,

Before joining Expedia, I worked at 24/7 RealMedia, Doubleclick and Falk, so I know a bit about Adserving and its strategy. So here is the scoop.

Mal, is correct, it is not really the inventory you are offering it is where and how your uses are coming from and the content you provide. So if you provide gambling and entertainment, credit cards, loans, phones, cars, and other instant gratification advertisers will want to be on your site.

So, what you need to put together, what EVERONE needs together, is what is called a One-Sheeter. This is a break down of the 3 points to an adverting site: Site, Users and Ad placement.

For your site: IMP per month (impressions), CTR (click rate for banners), content type, channels,
For your users: where is most of your traffic coming from, demographics, what do they mostly do or see on your site.
For ad placements: what kind, type, size and weight of ads you will be offering to advertisers as well as cost for these as CPM, CPC and CPA deals.

With this information, you have a nice 2 sheet data which over views your site, users and data. You then contact Doubleclick, 24/7 media, Wrightmedia and any possible advertisers for display on your site.

There is more, but I crushed my hand on the way to work today so it is killing me to type. Drop me a line if anyone needs a contact or further information.

    Cheers

You really need to specify the main country where your visitors are coming from, I know a lot about the American CPM/CPC and contextual networks because my site is more popular over there and I liked to give them all a try.

Some are good for US-only traffic, some are good for US/UK/AU traffic, others are good for high quality advertisers but fill the space poorly, others pay low rates but fill 100% space and so on. I don't really know much about the UK networks though.

For one of my websites I use Claxon Media. I receive regular good payments from them. It includes good looking adverts for reputable companies such as Sky, alongside some of them horrible smiley faces ones. It is very easy to disable sets of adverts you don't want to appear.
