It would appear that most people don’t make any money, other than pocket money!

I’ve been reading many posts on this forum for sometime and it appears that a lot of technical and marketing talent exists but very few of you are making any money. When I say money that is worthwhile (i.e. 1000 + U.S dollars a month). This really is a great pity since I’ve seen a whole selection of professional quality web-sites from links in the various forum emails.

I can only guess that the reason for this is that you don’t own the product!

What drives people? Is it the web-site design, the technical skill, or money etc?

I wouldnt say that a lot of people dont make good money, its just the ones that do dont feel the need to shout about it.

A lot of the posts you find on here are from people learning and asking questions in order to progress so a lot of the posts will be from people only making pocket money while they learn.

But there are still a lot of very sound very helpful people making very good money here who are kind enough to spend some of their time to help people make a few quid along the way - I owe a lot to this forum thats for sure.

I do affilaite marketing as nothings better than being your own boss and for me seeing a site convert for the 1st time when doing PPC is a very rewarding feeling.

I'd class myself as a small merchant although we are growing very fast (look out other underwear retailers ) but some of our affiliates are making a lot more than $1000+ per month out of us , It all depends on how much you push and market someone i.e we have a VERY big affiliate who hardly makes anything from us (and im surprised they are still listing us on their site) but we have a few small bloggers who make a ton of money, The reason I presume is because the larger affiliate is more spread out whereas the bloggers are a targetted audience.

    Agree with Wardy...

Also bear in that mind that those who are making lots will tend to keep hush-hush about it...

from people I have meet at events and I run the Merchant accounts for www.Preventx.co.uk (small) and DFDS Seaways (large), there's loads of people making a £1000+ a week, yes there are loads getting 1 sale a week. But that's like all walks of life.

You have to start some where.....

Are you saying that people read blogs about men's underwear?

I get strange looks sometimes from the wife when im working on the laptop and im browsing the forums, but as she is my business partner as well she knows it's all research

Is this industry specific? I would of thought that in many very competitive industries there are only a small amount of people that are making "real" money. A number of people making "some" money and a majority that are not really making any money out of it.

You say that there are a lot of people with real skill out there not making money, but that would be the definition of skill, just because someone knows how to program even the most complex of applications and the most stunning of sites does not mean they have any real skill at online marketing, especially when under a pay per sale environment.

For me and i guess for many others it is not the learning how to build websites that takes the time and experience, it is the learning how to make money as an affiliate with all the **** we have to put up with, how to spot the good from the bad, how to market different types of products etc. This is a skill on its own, how many of your very skilled people can say they have two or three years experience in that? Then ask the people who are making money as "genuine" affiliates (exclude brand bidders) if they have experience in this field.

Yes some affiliates have deep pockets but they dont have big pockets of cash to just throw away, they want to make a profit and would do so in any industry.
    Nothing to see here...

    Serious question.

If it's a similar amount of **** to people in other professions, I'll stick with this colour of ****.

for me affiliate marketing has always made me my pocket money,

and I have realised again(figured this ot when I was 7 the first time ) the more jobs I do the more pocket money I get.

my driving force when I monetised my first site was money, .

Ive recently been experimenting with PPC and ad placement etc. and my new driving force is the fact that my actions will result in me earning money, and eventually improving my lifestyle. Affiliate marketing isn't the freeride a lot of ebooks, people and blogs let you believe, but is brilliant buzz getting those sales in.

    Agreed KM8,

For my sins I am also an independent financial adviser and I would be hard pressed to find any other occupation with as much sh*t as we have to deal with.

All so "joe public" can squirrel away a few quid for retirement.

    I blinking ask you!

My move into AM is so I can move out of FS industry to avoid this sh*t - give me AM sh*t any day of the week!

There is no limit to how much you can make. If you're good and patient you will earn a fortune. If you are neither of those you will end up like me with no sales. Tell a lie I have had 2 sales but I friggin earned them ones! I worked my ass off for 3 months on my first site.

Thanks you've got me all depresed now
