Newbie so don't flame me for my stupidity (please).

Site is indexed by Google, Yahoo etc. etc.

Have a google sitemap as well as links from other sites to many of my pages.

However, when I check on google using 'link:www.etc.etc.etc....'

It shows only the index page and no others, all the pages are interlinked with each other.

I have even used the tool within the googlesitemaps and it also shows that only my first page is indexed with them.

Whats this all about then !!!!!!

If it's a new site, just be patient, if your homepage is being indexed, the rest will appear in due course. It's probably worth updating the homepage on a regular basis to give google a reason to revisit. If you post the URL i'm sure someone will be along in a minute who can tell you if there are any major problems with your site.

    Agreed.

If it is a new site i.e. a few months old DO NOT panic. This literally just happened to me. For me, google did this and about 2-3 weeks later it started to crawl deeper I now have around 20 pages indexed. Now I just need it to go 1 level deeper which, I am guessing will happen soon.

Try and get some quality backlinks with decent PR (5+) this will ensure your site gets crawled more frequently and will also help your own PR.

Not to piss on the fire.... but you could also have picked up a penalty what's your web address?

    Hope this helps.

The link command on Google only shows a sample of the sites linking in.

Do you mean to use the site:www.domain.com command to see which pages have been indexed by Google?

Is it a site with hundreds of pages ? That's suposed to slow the indexing by Google. My last small websites with half a dozen pages have all been fully indexed by Google and MSN within a week - Yahoo is another matter.

Duplicate content has that effect too. Or maybe it needs more time, you didn't say how long it's been published.

Game Showcase is in this phase at the moment - on msn almost every page is indexed and it visits the site every day.

Google however has only indexed the homepage - granted it's indexed it twice for no reason ('/' and 'index.php') strange

Seems like just a waiting game then, cheers for the replies.

I will get some stuff updated on the index page to freshen it up a bit.

I wouldn't worry about it. It is perfectly normal for only the homepage to show for the first few months.

The only way around this is by getting a LOT of quality links.

Google will show only little %, maybe 10-15% of links. Use Yahoo for this purpose.

    site: for showing indexed pages

link: for links to that page

    linkdomain: works in yahoo, links total to the domain;

maybe you think competitor has 10 links to homepage, but when run linkdomain: it turns out they have 5000 links to some internal pages. So go figure what do you need to do to reverse engineer a site.
