Im preparing the story board and specs for a xmas flash banner game for www.justhom.com which affiliates can use to promote us , the prize being a 10% discount code for all those that complete the game.

But i need a bit of advice from affiliates on what dimension banner they would go for.

at the moment due to the nature of the game it looks to me that a 250x250 banner would be best suited but would that be too big for most affiliates??

without giving too much away about the game yet these are a few details

    1. Projects working title is "Snow Balls"
    2. It's based on a click power,click angle, wind speed/direction game
    3. participant must score 5 "goals" within a set time limit (any idea what a omptimum time limit would be or should I just do away with a time limit and say 5 "goals" to get the prize
    4. first view of game is side on, after launch game switches to FPS view to track the line of the object being thrown to target
    5. it will be in a cartoon (hopefully cell shaded) style
    6. Prize of 10% discount code would be shown after 5 succesfull "goals"
    7. no need for highscore table i think

would this be something that would interest affiliates to promote us or am i overstretching myself here?

    Hi

I think that anything that ends in a discount voucher is great for our visitors. Would this game be a content unit for us to host, or is it just a banner to a page on your site?

If the game is played on our site, then 250x250 can easily be accomodated (anything up to 350x350 would be fine for us!), however if it's just a banner, then I'm afraid it would be too big. Our banners are restricted to 125 wide.

I wouldn't rule out a high score table, I (obviously) would prefer that there was one included, for the winner to get a prize - and each player to have to register their details to win. So as well as creating a commission from possible use of the discount voucher, we could also raise one from the sign up too! Which is how your program works already me thinks.

I think this would be most agreeable with us affiliates - Fun Content, Competition, Discount and Commission - Fantastic!

    Cheers

    Jason

In not too into the tech details of it yet as im still laying out the foundations in terms of storyboard and concept.

But if it was set as a flash banner from within AW then wouldn't you be able to just insert the banner code into where you want it on your page and it would display on your site ?

The only reason i've rejected a hi-score table so far is that because the initial idea for it was to be a "banner" so rather than have people spend the time competing with each other to get a high score they just needed to reach a certain score to get the prize of the discount code - this way we don't loose interest in the game, actually 2 reasons as i didn't want to have to code in a connection with either a mysql database or flat file to record the scores (which is often open to cheating from what i've seen).

I've got to work out how to make the click thru work for affiliate codes as it's been quite a while since i've done any actionscripting so i might outsource certain parts of it.

    Hi Adam

How's about instead of showing the discount code on the 'banner', take users to your site and make them register for it - All winners get the discount voucher, plus a chance to win your monthly prize. That way you capture a new member, and can show them ways in which to spend their vouchers.

    Cheers

Could do but im trying to keep this as simple and cost effective as possible as it's only for the xmas period (small company limited budget and all that).
I know what you are saying but that would mean I would have to recode the subscription section on our site to differentiate between people getting referred from the game and normal signups so that only game players are shown the discount code. plus I think that the fact that you would have to register/signup to get the code would put more people off than it would get in compared to a "here is the code, click here and off you pop"

The payment for newsletter signups (which is i guess where you are thinking of the extra revenue) is only really a little bonus to the affiliates rather than something to make proper money on
