    Hey all

I am looking to roll a few sites out and looking for really good, reliable and cheap web hosting...

Currently I use fast hosts who I think are great but at £70 a year per site I am sure there are better deals out there.£70 isnt too bad but if I roll out 10 sites that 700 quid a year...

Anyone know of any ideas of how to approach this? What do you do?

    The hosting needs:
    ----------------------
    MySQL
    PHP
    Web stats

    Cheers
    -Ben

    Hi Ben,

I've been using a reseller account on <a href="http://www.meirhosting.net/reseller.php">Meir Hosting</a> after several recommendations from this forum and have been really impressed. Comes with everything you've asked for and it's also around &#163;70 a year but what's so good about it is you can run all your sites off it with their own email/ftp/domain name so you can keep all your sites under one roof, add more easily as you build them, and never pay more unless your bandwidth skyrockets. It's been great for me and the support has been really quick every time.

If you're only going to be running one site then you could also use <a href="http://www.34sp.com">34SP</a> who are also very good, have everything you've asked for and are only &#163;17.95 a year.

I don't work for either, just happy with their service Good luck.

    Grant

    Hi Ben,

I'm using american based Hostgator. www.hostgator.com.

Like yourself, planning to put up a good number of sites and hostgator offer unlimited domains and mysql databases. Went for the baby croc plan which is $9.99 per month. All going great so far, no downtime yet and 24 hour live support.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies - would the sensible thing be to go for a reseller account?

Yep, I'd say so for anyone building more than one site. Think it's perfect for affiliate sites cause you can test out sites with their own domain names/email/database etc without committing to an expensive years hosting for each one. With this you pay once and the rest is up to you.

One drawback with this is if you want to interlink some of sites for SEO purposes.

Google might not like it if you interlink too much between sites on 1 IP address.

I also use Hostgator for all the hosting and 1 & 1 for the domain names. It really is simple to have all your sites with 1 account on Hostgator and point the DNS of the domain names in the 1&1 control panel.

deffo Meirhosting - their support is really fast and the servers are all reliable. They had a few teething problemms a year ago with thir UK hosted servers, but now they're back to normal. Good value too.

    Hi Ben,

I recently signed up with streamline.net who are UK based and so far have been really impressed with them. I am using their reseller account which gives you 10 domains, each with various options (ie PHP, MySQL, Windows or Unix hosting) all for £99 a year.

There are no limits on webspace or bandwidth and the customer support seems very good also.

As I said, so far I'm really impressed with them.

Might be worth a look and I'd be interested if anyone else has had any experience of them.

    Regards

    Jason

freeola.com is cheap (well free when you purchase a domain from getdotted.com). Also no bandwidth or size restrictions. MySQL is extra you could share a DB with between all your sites if you namespace your tables. No web stats though!

I currently dial up to upload files, which costs 1p a minute. That's how they earn their money, or you can pay £3 a month (I think) and upload with whatever connection. A mate of mine has problems with the later. Only managed to upload using DOS FTP.

I've been using freeola a while now. Had a few minor problems in the past, but none for a while. But then I guess you get what you pay for.

You could get yourself a VPS (virtual private server).

Linux ones should be around &#163;20/month windows &#163;30/month.

You'll have your own server and can set up as many sites as you like. Take the advice above and don;t interlink sites on the same server.

    We use interhost.co.uk

Try getting hosting off domain forums, I got a reseller account with unlimited accounts and large bandwidth and space etc for about $4 a month, which is brilliant
