    Hi, I've read that having numbers in a domain name is a bad idea. Is this really true or does it depend on how it's used?

    I would say it depends on how its used. For example;
    http://www.118118.com/
    or
    http://www.oneoneeightoneoneeight.com

    If theres a legitimate use, then go for it, but personally I wouldn't look at domains that use numbers to imitate;
    http://www.micr0s0ft.com
    or
    http://www.1bm.com

    It would make me wary of visiting as I would expect it to be full of popups, adware etc etc.

    Depends how its used I guess, if you have plenty of cash to build brand recognition, phones4u for example isnt hurt by it...

    At affiliate/development level without the cash to build a brand initially I,d stay away from numbers in a domain, often after telling someone the URL you then have to explain the NUMBER 4 for example,

    plus numbers and domains dont work as effective on a radio either

    Neil...

    BTW, oneoneeightoneoneeight.com is available to register it probably gets a few visits lol

    It would be for legitmate purposes.

    For example would widget10.co.uk be better than widgetten.co.uk?

    Also if you can register both which URL would you promote/use?

    If possible, I always try to avoid numbers as they can cause confusion.

    If you're looking for five digit numbers, forget it. Two rival companies in America have registered hundreds of them and have started setting up area-specific portals based on American zip codes e.g. 90210.com.
