What is the best CMS solution

Hi All

With such a huge array of CMS solutions available I was wondering if anyone can recommend the 'best'and most stable CMS solution around.

I have a phpbb forum that I would want to integrate. Other considerations would be a photo gallery for the masses, probably a blog function for the masses and also a function to allow members to post articles?

Any ideas on what should be the main contender...?

There is
Joomla, xoops, mambo, drupal and others...my heid is spinning!

Thanks All

Joomla. Do loads of sites for clients with it. Easy to use, well supported and loads of extras.

Joomla as well. Although if you are used to doing a lot of your own coding, then it feels really restrictive. I have a love/hate thing going on with all CMS. Like all the others, you have to really dig around to find answers to very simple questions, but as mentioned, the support from the rest of the community is not too bad.

If you have, or are willing to gain, PHP or .net knowledge, then build your own! More fun and more flexibility. In the long run, faster too, cos it is far easier to change something that you have built yourself rather than something someone else has built.

www.rentacoder.com - thousands of coders - some of them good - who can build a system that will do exactly what you want for not a lot of money.

Shane seems to know their stuffShane seems to know their stuff
we had a look at them all and then eneded up building our own

it took months and ended costing about £10k in wages in the end but works really well and has many ickle features built into.

open source is cool but it's often inflexible, prone to security issues and ultimately needs customisation at some stage anyway so we figured we'd rather build something that does the job we want from scratch.

for content management systems from scratch check out Jon's site at tvidesign.co.uk he does quality work and importantly understands both affiliate and merchant aspects and issues as he's both himself, you're still looking a couple of thousand plus for a bespoke CMS but five minutes surfing should make you realise anything sub £5k is a good price for a custom built CMS.

I find with good designers and developers you get what you pay for so and it could save weeks of messing only to find that the open source route or rentacoders from somewhere the electricity generater fails each night at 6pm isn't for you.
