Buying a site

Thinking of buying a site - Does this sound like a good deal.

1 years hosting included - PR2 site for $40.

Sounds like a steal to me, surely the fact that it has some age to the domain and a PR value is worth $40 on its own?

The only draw back is the content which has been just lifted from an article site and credited like "article by joe bloggs etc.."

Whats your take?

It is effectively just selling a domain.

You do get the domain too don't you?

It therefore depends on the domain.

$40 is ok for a domain that isn't xxy-etc.com.eu.cc

PR2 means nothing much and can be faked or may be left over from the previous domain owner.

Some people pick up a domain put the same site on it and sell domains like this over and over. No real problem because it's so cheap and it is a fair (i.e. not too unethical) business IMO.

Beware copyright all the same, one of these guys did this but just nicked copy that wasn't "article site" copy and came unstuck.

hmm good advice AQLS thankyou - I didnt even think of that. Probably best off starting from stratch as PR2 is easily achieved just takes a bit of time. To be fair teh domain name does suck.

Plus, if its got age, theres no saying it has been in a bad neighbourhood for all those years

Hi Ben,

If your thinking of using this domain to increase the rank of another site, then i wouldn't bother, search engines can see through this and if both sites are related, they will both be penalised. Gaining pagerank 2 (for what its worth!) is easy to acheive, we currently have PR4 but expect to reach PR6 by the end of the year, its pretty much irelevant though, there are much better ways of improving rank etc.

buying / selling domains never been my thing but I *think* when a domain anme changes hands, whois etc change then it looses any sort of value history wise.

so yeah your getting some cheap hosting and a naff name at a guess

unless you like the domain I wouldn't

What happens at the end of the year with the hosting?

Yes, I would suggest you thoroughly research the domain name. For example, check out its history in the Wayback Machine.
