Amazon to pay monthly

Just had this email from amazon.com - hope .co.uk does the same

Beginning January 1, 2007, your Amazon Associates payments will be monthly instead of quarterly, paid approximately 60 days after the end of each month. For example, referral fees you earn in January will be paid at the end of March, and payment of referral fees earned in February will be paid at the end of April.

This is a fantastic improvement to the amazon associates program

mmm - the way I'm reading it I don't think so.

Over a quarter I can easily reach way up the tiers - so get extra commission on all my sales for that quarter - up to 10%

but over a month - it looks like I'll be down to 7/7.5% - hope I'm wrong though.

I agree, it doesn't look good for the top tier. You now have to ship over 3,313 items per month compared with the previous 1,584. They've rejigged the commission slightly as well, but I still think affiliates will be down overall.

Of course it is a chance for them to make an adjustment to the commissions but i suspect it might also be to curb the migration from amazon associates to networks by affiliates because of the quicker payment cycles.

I know a few people moved over to zanox (maybe in germany) because they paid out every month as opposed to every quarter.

It doesnt hurt larger affiliates though but it will hurt affiliates in that grey area around the 3000 mark i think from the surface of it.

I can see it could impact a bit if, for example, you have a quiet Oct & Nov but busy Dec as the Oct & Nov sales will be paid at lower tiers but it could be you get to a higher tier in Dec that more than compensates.

doh!!! - hands up time and I haven't even been drinking -

completely did not factor in the 2.5% extra for direct deep links - which mostly mine are - so apologies to Amazon and to anyone else for leading them astray - it'll be nice to be paid monthly

must try to remember to use all my brain all the time - oh well back to dusting!

This is great news - although my first reaction was the same as Elaine's!! Hahahaha!

Paying quarterly always seemed strange to me, going monthly will help cash flow tremendously! Nice one Amazon!

Read the announcement carefully: They double the payment delay to 60 days. This means that averaged out you'll wait the same amount of time for your money, but they tripple your bank charges..

January earnings will be paid 1 month earlier that the quarterly payment was, February will be the same and March will arrive a month later!

So really, this no advantage for affiliates...

Good point GeneVincent. I guess the only advantage is that once it's rolling it will be a steady stream for people but as you point out it theoretically doesn't get anyone further ahead.
