Have been following this since December, a great thread that has made some really interesting reading. You've earned a great deal of respect from myself and others here, you're certainly no failure. From reading through the posts it's clear your efforts have inspired a lot of people too. Nice one mate!

I believe that running PPC campaigns really sharpens up your commercial abilities and experience as you have to keep track of revenue, expenditure, profit and other key business indicators on a daily basis. Its your money on the line, and that keeps you sharp.

SEO, on the other hand creates a feeling of revenue being cost free. Sharp commercial skills are less important.

Sure, SEO can have massive ROI's, however in any given time frame, you can earn actual profit more rapidly, and more predicatably with PPC.

The best approach is of course having, and using, SEO and PPC skills, but I find myself thinking of a site producing results from SEO "next year", whereas I can produce high revenues from PPC "today"
It's the knowledge base and learning curve that is steep as well, you take a look at affiliate marketing and someone might think, well that's just a bit of that but it isn't, it's a bit of this, a bit that, mixed with this and that, a dabble of this and a bobble of that, a bit more of a twist, shake it around, add some more, sprinkle a little more of that, spray a bit of this and then you've got to do that and more the next day.

But anyway, being a failure and not wishing to read 180 posts, did you manage it?

Are you going to do your challenge now - £3K in a week, as you said halfway through this thread?

Sure. I'm off to Whistler for our school snowboarding trip this Friday, so will start on my return.

I will use one of our own merchants and a lead based program. It will take me one week to put the site and PPC campaign together, one further week to optimise the PPC campaign and one more week to make £3k profit.

I will also donate the site and campaign as a prize at the next a4u get together as promised.

I've made a note in my diary to start this on Monday 26th Feb 2007.

that wouldn't be fair game, though. You have stats on the performance, you already know what works, so you will be starting from a very advantageous position.
How about a merchant you haven't worked with before? Even if in a sector you know well.

True, that'd be like me starting this thread again and doing PPC for alpha

All in all though I think this has been a very good thread, yes id have loved to be here at the end saying "hes done it hes done it" but things aren't that easy. Beejeebers moved not only sectors but acquisition models too, I've never really done much with regards to lead generation but with how this thread has panned out and some of the comments made it seems its a lot easier to get people to part with information than money, even if that infromation is worth a lot more than they think.

Despite these two massive changes hes still managed to build a profitable campaign which is steadily building. Given time and a bit more work this could easily be generating the £3k profit a month target.

Michael whatever challenge you decide to undertake the fact that your going to give it away, give someone a head start and let them learn from what you've set up is admirable - good guy

Beejeebers...Have you continued running the alpharooms aff. program? It's too bad I didn't see this thread when you started it. We could have had a friendly head to head competition to see who could generate the most profit within 30 days. That would have spurred you to action even more. By the way, it was great meeting you and the others at Whistler

    Dave.
