Ironically, on the broadband speed issue, the furthur away you are from main towns etc, the faster your speed. At work, a building stuck out in a remote village gets a much faster connection than the office in a developed town.
This is because the infrastructure of the towns is already there, and fairly old, so you get lower speeds. Remote villages haven't been hooked up before, so they get new cables to bring them broadband, which brings faster speeds.
