This looks cool, I've signed up for the beta testing, fingers crossed. It probably won't help productivity though, I'm supposed to be watching less TV this year!!

  Re: Joost

The only problem I`ve seen with the service is the amount of bandwidth needed, a maximum of 320Mb an hour according to reports i`ve seen.

Fine for the US, where bandwidth is unlimited for users, but in the UK many ISP's have bandwidth caps, for instance BT Broadband home for the mid range account is 4GB a month, which Joost would quickly get through.

Even the UK's "Unlimited" bandwidth offers would quickly kick you off I`d imagine if you used it a lot, as they have conditions for "reasonable" usage with their "unlimited" offerings.

Can see a lot of people not realising this, and then getting a warning or kicked off from their ISP.

  Re: Joost

Yes it is bandwidth intensive and I suppose not suited if you are on a capped ADSL connection - but I use a lot more bandwidth than that all the time as I usually download TV episodes rather than record them off the tv (I can get a episode of CSI downloaded, unarchived and ready to stream to my TV in under 10 minutes).

Honest: Well BT told me I couldn't get more than 4mb on my home line and I get 12 with bulldog at a steady rate but you do take your chances, what might work for me might not work for you.

  Re: Joost

Ironically, on the broadband speed issue, the furthur away you are from main towns etc, the faster your speed. At work, a building stuck out in a remote village gets a much faster connection than the office in a developed town.

This is because the infrastructure of the towns is already there, and fairly old, so you get lower speeds. Remote villages haven't been hooked up before, so they get new cables to bring them broadband, which brings faster speeds.
