    Hi

Looking at setting up my first blog, anyone got experience of how blogs can be optimised for google PR, natural search etc.

I'm pretty experienced optimising standard websites, but is blogging optimisation the same? Can you create tailored titles, meta data? Will your blog address help your rankings too, as with a normal URL?

Thanks for any advice in this area!!

    Hi Blackstar,

We've been playing with blogs for a while now and from the work we've done, the optimising process and tactics are pretty much the same.

Couldn't really say about the domain name though - anyone else got any conclusive evidence on that part??

    All the best,

    Alf

The key with a blog is keeping it niche. Natural SEO will occur if you consistently write about a niche topic. You will struggle more if your blog talks about this, that and t'other.

Kepp your posts informative and interesting, controversy is also good linkbait. If you use wordpress there are loads of seo plugins and widgets that are easy to setup. Do a search on here and you'll find loads of tips and James has written a few bits of advice on using wordpress in his blog (www.exwebjunkie.com)

Thanks for this info - nice blog by the way James ( if you're reading this! ) - got a dumb question and if its covered somewhere else already i apologise - is there any known SEO advantage to using Blogger then WordPress - purely because of the link it has with Google??

    Cheers,

    Alf

    Thanks Alfie

No, Google doesn't rank sites better for using blogger than another application. Blogger does have it's own benefits (one login for all of your sites across multiple domains, for example), but for me Wordpress & it's plugins can certainly do more to help build the sites SEO potential.
