Use an outbuilding if you have one, or convert your garage. It's much less likely that you'll get constantly interrupted by your family when you're working if you do this.
Hi all,
Looking at converting a room in my house to an office. Sick of using my laptop while watching TV and would get more work done in a more work friendly room.
Spurred on by aquanuke's post

Has anyone any ideas on a good office setup or pics of your office setup like aquanukes.
Looking for some inspiration
Adrian

If you use a dedicated outbuilding for the sole purpose of running a business, you will liable for business rates on it.
If you use a room partly as an office and partly as a family room, as far as I'm aware you aren't liable for business rates as the room is used for multiple purposes.
I think that's true of the UK but check with the council first as they are the one's who charge the business rates.
(If the outbuilding doubles up as a shed, you should be OK)
I'm afraid i've no outbuildings or garage to convert to an office. Have to convert one of the rooms in my house so should get away with business rates, although I'll have to check this out.
Anyone know of any online resources with pics of nice 1 room office setups.

Hi Adrian, i started with an office in the house, then converted the garage, and have now got a serviced office on a 6 month lease - each decision to inprove the standard of my work space has resulted in an increase in my focus and ultimately profitibility.
I would urge anyone who's doing this full time to really try and get yourself some workspace well away from daily distractions, you'd be amazed at how much you achieve!!
All the best,
Alf!
