    Right
Im currently a student, 18, off to uni next year to study either business studies, international management, or internation business finance and economics at manchester (If get grades).
However im not 100% sure I'll be able to stick to uni for 3/4 years. Not sure if the courses i've choosen will take me to the career i want.
I do affiliate marketing in my spare time, I don't do it to purely make money although thats the bonus, I do it as i enjoy it, and many people say "do a job you enjoy" so affiliate marketing looks like a career I could persue.
However I have no clue how I would go about starting a career in it, Yes I can and have made many websites myself and done it indivually and made money, but how do people get into working for big companies such as tradedoubler, AF, etc

Im interested to hear from current people working in Affiliate Marketing as to how they got into it, especially people who went to uni. The route they took, courses they took and how it helped them.

Really appreciate your replies, I've been sitting in exams when i've finished thinking "do I want to go to uni, do a course for 3 years then go into a job I wouldnt enjoy as much as I enjoy affiliate marketing"

    Thanks
    Max

Edit: Would be good if I could spell Affiliate correct in the thread title (mod please change )

You can try these sites which I found very useful. Both specialise in Internet Marketing Jobs and frequently look for affiliate managers:

    www.datascope.co.uk ( Speak to Malsara )
www.onlinemarketingjobs.com ( this is where I found my current job from )

Alternativly, post your CV to sites like Monster and others like it, and the calls will come in!

Hi Max, in addition to the sites already listed, you could look at industry specific sites, such as www.pentasia.com for the gaming industry.

If you're looking to remain on the affiliate side of the fence, but would like a regular salary, send me a PM, we're looking to recruit at the moment,

    All the best,

    Alf

I would recommend using this site: http://www.brandrepublic.com/ to search for jobs. Personally, i think its one of the best, and its where all the online media recruitment agencies scout for talent.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi max99

In terms of degrees etc, i think most of the people that we've got in the account management team have got degrees in marketing or management of some kind. Apart from me of course (not sure why i thought having a history degree would help get me a job )

geordie_b, if you send me your CV etc then I'll take a look at it for you as i'm looking for some more account managers at the moment.

    Cheers,

    Warrick

I just kind of stumbled into Affiliate Marketing. Infact, I stumbled upon all of my jobs on the way here! Certainly don't have any form of degree and wouldn't say it's required in this industry.

Three of my friends have become accountants despite studying classics, law and geography respectively. Your overall competence and experience will always be what clinches the deal for a lot of jobs (obviously you can't be a doctor without studying medicine though!).

I would go and do your degree. You will have plenty of time for affiliate stuff while at uni. Then once you graduate you can decide what you want to do.

You also have the added bonus of being at uni and not being totally skint and in debt when you leave. No need to drink Special Brew! (not that I did, but you see what I mean)

I'm going through uni at the moment - if you can go - go!

As has been said - you can use affilliate revenue to pay for the books (if any are required)

I'm doing a multimedia computing degree at UWE, Bristol which offers a lot of variety in website technologies - some of which make it into my websites lol (and other interesting areas) it's not a marketing degree by any means but it focuses on (very lightly) some business areas.

If anything a degree gives you time to choose what you want to do - I would love to go full time affiliate marketing when I finish (not sure if that's going to happen though)

I would definately go to university, I had a great laugh and made lifelong friends. Go to another town/city don't stay at home. If 3/4 years don't appeal, then try a B-Tec HND which is only 2 years, that's what I did. More practical and real world, less debt at the end of it and you end up learning just as much as those degree fairies
