Just wondering what is the most popular software people use to buid their affiliate sites? Witht he market getting more and more crowded affiliate sites need to look more professional than ever to rank hight on SEO and also in some case to even get approval from metchants.

So then what are you using for that pro look website?

The site does not have to be a professional looking one at all, my current best converting site is a scruffy looking one which has the same design layout for the last 3 years.

Some people philosophy is that a bad looking passes more traffic to the merchant to get off the website quick! – so if you go for the in between, a so-so looking site and you have the right products you are on a winner.

Btw, I USE Dreamweaver for all my sites and occasional Hot Metal Pro when I want to be nostalgic!

I design my website mockups with Macromedia Fireworks, then I convert that into XHTML/CSS markup and do any serverside coding required using Visual Studio .NET.

If you're not that up on web development then theres some pretty good scripts around for setting up stores / blogs / directories etc. There's also TemplateMonster.com too if you struggle in the design department.

I used to code all my sites in html with frontpage cos I don't really know that much about php or asp or whatever, but now I've started using wordpress for my sites - it's working great as a cms and there are tons and tons of different designs and plugins.

If you have a open source content management system, you can usually grab decent free templates from their website.

E.g.

I'm going to be experimenting with word press over the next couple of weeks for a new project, I use it for my blog so i'm comfortable with it and there are some nice widgets available.

Otherwise I custom build my sites - using dreamweaver
