    yes, really. It's fantastic the first domain name was registered in 1986.

    When I got my first domains in 96, .coms were $70 a pop so 5,000 domains would have cost $350,000 ! Hosting was an arm and leg too ... ah ... the (not so) good old days!

    In the very early days domain names didn't cost anything and were doled out on an ad-hoc basis if you had a good enough case for it.
