    Hi everyone,

I am pretty useful with Adwords, although i have not set up many campaigns or anything yet

I have learnt everything and now just need to put it to work. However i do not have the finances to get started as most affiliate programs take 2 or 3 months before they pay out.

I am leaving my job on June 1st and then going on holideay for 2 weeks on 3rd June. When i come back i will be unemployed and was hoping to start my own career using Google Adwords. Now i have been browsing this forum and searching through Google and i have seen you can get a full-time job using Google Adwords and PPC, which is great.

I would like to get started using Adwords and PPC with a company and then maybe start my own campaigns as i will be earning whilst still learning and using Adwords during my full-time job.

The problem is i have no qualification other than GCSE's as i am only 18 and therefore this puts me in a difficult situation as most companies require degrees etc. in special fields. I am prepared to put in the hard work and will probably require some form of basic training to put me up to scratch with everything just in case there are a few things i have missed while learning PPC.

Anyway so basically i want a job using PPC, not SEO, just PPC. I would like to use the job and the training to enhance my PPC and Adwords skills and then when i am all trained up and doing well with Adwords i will get my own campaigns set up and then work for myslef.

So i have written my C.V. and expressed my desire for Adwords and how i have been studying it in my spare time and i have written to a few companies stating my desire to be given the opportunity to work with PPC. I had a phone call this morning from Propel London. They said they would be very interested in chatting to me and i will be talking to them next month and see where things go. It looks promising as i answered some grilling questions very well over the phone and the guy seemed very impressed.

Anyway so that all looks good and hopefully i will be given the opportunity to train and work with Adwords full-time untill i am happy to work with Adwords on my own for more freedom and more money

So what role should i actually be applying for if i just want to work with PPC and i have no previous experience with other companies or qualifications? There are PPC managers, PPC Executives and a few others. What role am i looking for and are there many companies willing to train people like me?

What sort of training do you undertake and are there any courses for PPC that are worth studying, you know like college courses studying PPC or online marketing?

Hope to hear some positive responses soon.

    Thanks.

    Hi Jamie,
The position you will be looking for will probably vary in what its called, 'Account Manager' , 'Campaign Manager' etc but what you are after is a role where you manage client's accounts.

I work strictly in the affilaite side of things but I have a good friend who got a job at a PPC agency without having any experience in the area (however he did have a good degree which is obviously important).

If you can show enthusiasm and that you will be driven in the job I'm sure you will do well. However I'm not sure that expressing an interest in running your own PPC campaigns is necessarily the best idea as there could be a potential conflict of interest involved given the data you will be working with but I'm not sure on that point tbh

Any good company who employs you will train you on the job btw.

There are certainly some companies who are willing to take on people to manage the ppc accounts that dont have degrees or specific training - when i started at Buyagift i was not taken on to work with PPC and actually had no experience using PPC to start with - I just kind of ended up falling into the roll.

I started by looking and tidying up some of the smaller ppc engines and then moved on to managing the accounts for adwords, yahoo MSN etc. I havent really been on any specific training courses but in fact have picked up most things from reading online sources such as this forum (which has been an invaluable resource), and also through some trial & error.

Feel free to email or pm me if you want to know anymore.

Hi Jamie, i recently employed a guy in exactly the same shoes as you - he's classed as a Campaign Manager, and i took him on for his personality and potential. I realised that anyone with the PPC skills already would probably already be in a job, so would be easier to do on the job training.

He's picked up the job really well and i'm extremely happy with him. So the moral is the jobs do come up!! If you are finding it difficult when you return from hols, send me a PM and we can have a chat.

    All the best,

    Alf

I would just like to let you know that i am due to phone a guy from Propel London next month to arrange a meeting for a job in PPC. Obviously he wants me to phone a little closer to when i will be available for the job. However he was really impressed with me as i have alreadt stated.

I just had another email from a comapny called Periscopix. They would like to chat with me on Thursday for arround 20 minutes and then take things from there.

So it is looking promising and i really will be ecstatic if i get either job. I am so into PPC and really do want to go into this full-time. I would probably want some training but i am sure i would cruise through it and prove my worth to either company.

Also thanks Alf i will let you know if i am still looking for a place after my holiday.

Thanks for all the help guys. It seems most comapnies will provide very good training to get you up to scratch which is exactly what i am interested in before working on this full time. Of course i want to be te best at PPC and therefore i want all the extra training i can get.

I beleive i can do a decent job without it, but i would be happy to refredh over the basics if i have to and am always looking to learn and improve with PPC.

Wish me luck and thanks for all the helpful comments.

    Hi Jamie,

There are certainly positions to be had in purely PPC. Have a look around some of the media agency recruitment websites. From a brief scan on E-consultancy there is around 20+ jobs specifically for this area of which several our from companies that I know are active on this forum.

    http://www.e-consultancy.com/jobs/?a...lter_job_type=

It is also extremely unlikely that many people have studied PPC advertising at uni so your own experience and enthusiasm should put you in a good position. You might want to put a "Looking for role" type post in the jobs section here.

    Good luck with everything,

    Max

As an update to your post...

    1) I wouldn't discuss particular interviews you have lined up or potential roles you are going for

    2) Google Adwords has a training centre that can get you qualified as a Adwords professional although the requirements for this might be unachieveable you can still go through the training which I have done and found to be really useful. The adcenter lot at Microsoft are also particularly helpful with any questions you might have.

I have heard of Perry Marshall, however i am not looking to learn Adwords. I am looking for a full-time job that involves using PPC. I would however like training through the company so i can become an expert in PPC and then set up some of my own campaigns in my spare time to earn extra money untill i am ready to take it on full time for myself.

Become a Google adwords qualified individual and you'll be taken more seriously

Also, free your mind about the whole SEO thing. I know it's not the most exciting of areas, but it is necessary to have SEO knowledge/enthusiasm when working with Adwords in particular due to the emphasis on "site quality", and of course it's beneficial to have a good general knowledge of search.

Call me crazy, but why not set up an adwords campaign offering your services to companies?

Seems to me that would be a very unique way to land a job in ppc marketing, by actually getting one via ppc marketing?

    LOL

    Nice idea

However i do not have a great deal of money to spend right now. Would be pretty cool way to get the job though. However i think it would be difficult as i cant see many companies would search for employees in Google would they?

    Good thinking though.

Look at Chinwag (jobs section), nma etc.

Don't post here what interviews you have lined up! Good luck though.
