    Hi All

Im still really new to the am scene and have been really impressed by all of the help and support you guys give to new comers. I have a question which i am hoping some of you guys and girls can answer for me. I am an advertiser looking to either recruit publishers myself or use a network, the problem is i dont know how the networks recruit their publishers and what they can do that i cant myself. Any Ideas?

    The answer's in the question!

One of the biggest things a network does for a merchant is put them in touch with the right affiliates. On top of that they provide tracking which is usually more reliable than you'd expect to find on a private programme and a method for distributing payments amongst hundreds of affiliates.

Private programmes are rarely worthwhile for affiliates if the merchant is just doing it to keep costs down. If you are a finance or gambling merchant then the large CPA's and relatively smaller number of affiliates in the sectormight justify a private programme.

If you are an SME e-retailer it's unlikely, especially when there are networks about like Affiliate Future and Webgains whose costs are not prohibitive for smaller merchants as long as your offer is good.

I started as a merchant on AF with a site that was doing less than £2k a month and it paid for itself very quickly.

What's your site, or at least what sector are you in?
There are lots of different specialisms but finding the right affiliates can just be a matter of announcing your programme on here. It's as good a start as any.
