I really want to get into affiliate marketting. I've looked at a few Ideas, but I just can't seem to settle on anything.
Does n e body have n e recomendations of Merchants/products that would be good to start with. I'm rather new to it all so I want something that is reasonably low maintainence.
Affiliate marketing is not easy so you will need spend time researching your niche and how you are going to promote it. If you want low maintenance you could go down the PPC route which costs more but means less time on SEO etc.
Do you have a budget and time to set aside for this project?
I'm definately gonna start off doing PPC, and slowly work towards SEO (if that makes sense)
But its more the product that I'm having trouble deciding on. I thought about doing mobile phones, cause its something that I am interested in, and its a known fact that we do things that we are interested in alot better than tose that we are not...
Only problem with that is that mobile phone deals change daily, which means constant altereations to your site and definatly not low maintainence.
As for budget.... not really too sure, I think probably about £5000 p/m.
phones, gambling and credit cards are all doable but not if you want something low maintenance and not too competitive.
Fashion is a good bet - pick a niche like tshirts or ski ware and make some pretty pages about each merchant, picking out a couple of nice items from each one. Low maintenance, and a good platform to practice SEO on.
This one is a good example, if you ignore the big thomas pink banner which is breaking the design: http://brit-design.com/
I always tell beginners to try fashion - less competitive than the really high paying stuff but still hard enough to stretch your talents and pretty rewarding when the sales come in.
Read the two threads steve posted! Before he turns it int oan ebook and trys to sell it you
A few quick thoughts from me
SEO - you have to be interested in whatever your building the site about. It takes time to build content and commitment.
PPC - more of a methodical approach, you can have more of a passing fancy so to speak, get interested for a day, set the campaign up and move on, monitor it yes, but you dont have to be really commited to having a strong interest.

Well I did write most of the first one! Perhaps it should be an ebook... I could be the Rich Jerk 2!
Yeah, if you're doing SEO you're generally in it for the long haul, but this thread proves that you can do well with less popular phrases and less work.
When I started I had the exact same problem and ended up wasting lots of money by trying too many different products, industries at once with no real experience or success. At the end of the day I spread myself and my resources too thin.
It was a great learning experience for me and now I only focus on a couple of products. When these are making me a good profit, then I will move on and add other to my portfolio.
I realized that I got bored too easily and lost focus. So, just in case you are like me, pick your products wisely and stick with a couple to start with and stay disciplined!
