Typo squatters profiting from the Madeleine search

My wife just pointed me to this article which really turned my stomach

They seem to have done a nice job of finding out the parties involved already, but if anyone spots any more it'd be nice to know that we as a community can do our bit to stamp this out.

yup indeedy.. spotted it and thought sick b*******s that is just so wrong..

the feckers should have their whole months commssions binned and be kicked off whatever traffic networks they are using

When you think about it, this mode of operation must go on all the time. I agree it's so wrong! There are lots of tricks we use to get people to buy through our sites but this is way over the mark - a question of ethics. Some people would steal from their grandmothers.

I agree its very wrong, but unfortunately nowadays it really doesn't suprise me, and i`ve come to expect it.

A lot of people seem to have no morals!

I`m sure the next thing that we`ll see is emails with titles saying "Help find Madeleine " or similar with viruses attached to help them spread.

I saw that this story made the front page of the Mail on Sunday. I truly hope that nobody from this forum was involved in the bogus sites.

People involved in this sort of practice should be named and shamed.

While I'm sure no one would defend people domain squatting on typos for Madeline and I really do hope that she is returned to her parents safe and well (and indeed have put the official banners on some of our websites) - I do think that newspapers in condemning this are a bit hypocritical - I don't exactly see a lack of advertisements on pages relating to Madeline on the Daily Mail website (or in the newspaper come to that) - and presumably they make money from those advertisements - I guess it's a case of 'dont do as I do but do as I say'

I agree with you there. I saw a couple of guys at the cup final yesterday wearing "Find Madaline" T-Shirts with big "Sun Newspaper" logo on them. Yes it is good thing the publicity to try and help with the search for her but all the newspapers are also without doubt nicely increasing their sales with no doubt every new free poster they are giving out etc.

This is not me condoning what the original thread was about.
