i have a generic bank domain name and i was thinking of leasing it to a bank in that market area for say £5 a year for 5 years terms then after the 5 year term is up and they have done all the marketing of the domain name on posters/tv and their letters then increase the lease price to £500,000 a year for the next 5 years

    Will it Work

Domain leasing is certainly something that people do, but if you're saying will it work if I just ramp up the price after five years, then that is unlikely, because it's unlikely a major bank is going to enter into a contract where that could happen to them.

At £5 per year for 5 years their gonna want to know what the catch is.

Make it £5,000 or £50,000 per year and you might get somewhere.

Even at £5000 they'd insist on a clause in the contract giving them rights to renew for another 5 years at an agreed price increase and so on.

Never argue with idiots. They just drag you down to their level and then beat you with their experience.

OK here's why the idea is ridiculous:

    1. If you are renting a domain out at only £5 a year then lets face it, it must be pretty worthless. Any domain that is worth renting off somebody must by definition be a good domain, so good that the owner doesn't want to sell it and the person renting it wants it so badly that they happily rent it rather than own it. We are talking top generic premium domains here that must be worth hundreds of thousands (and more) of pounds. Years ago I actually brokered a deal where a company I represented rented out a domain. It was a generic domain but not even that fantastic to be honest - and we rented it out at £80k a year. So my point is that if a domain is only worth £5 a year then it can't be worth anything.

    2. If any company is looking to invest hundreds/maybe millions in building a brand by advertising then are they really going to do it with a leased domain that they don't own? I mean really would you?

    3. Lets say you were stupid enough to do this then wouldn't you mke sure you had an iron clad contract that prevented the owner of a domain to increase the lease price by 10 million percent after years? Yes you would.

    4. Why would a bank lease a generic domain from you? They all have their own brand/trademarks/website so why would they lease your domain? Unless it is mega generic and a vry popular serched term like say loans.com and receives 100,000 visitors a day. And if you do own such a domain isn't it worth more than £5 a year?

A1: UKOffer i did not say its worth £5 i said i rent it out for £5 to get the 5 year deal then increase it after five years.UkOffer it is a top generic premium bank domain name, what i should have said was I rent the domain name for a low fee then increase it after five years.

A2: Businesses do it all the time offline (property).

A3: Do you have a iron clad contract with google to stop them from increasing your keywords price for 05c to $5, no but you have 1 option dont use them.

A4: Yes its a mega generic, what i should have said was I rent the domain name for a low fee then increase it after five years.

what I mean is. If you are already the owner of the domain name, then it wouldn't really matter if you said what it was on here ?

People may take a different view then on the price you are asking etc ?

No "better than that" needed, just a mere observation my friend
