    Hey,

I hope someone can help me with this. When I bought hosting last year, a free domain came with the hosting package, and now that I'm moving everything onto a VPS I was wondering if there's a simple way to transfer the domain from the host to my 1and1 account.

I don't know too much about domain registrations, so please bear with me .

    Cheers

If the domain is in your name then just change tags to that of the new registrar within your admin panel with current host and then import the domain in the new admin interface at the new registrar once tag has changed.

You can check here for whois changes http://webwhois.nic.uk/cgi-bin/whois...bgajasgu.co.uk

Tag list: http://www.nominet.org.uk/registrars...strar/taglist/ or consult new registrar for tag details and importing.

*and don't forget to cancel hosting.

    Hi Lee,

Thanks for the info. Do you know how I would go about importing the domain into 1and1's interface? Also, would any downtime be experienced on the site during the changeover, or only downtime due to the DNS updating?

    Cheers for your help

Nameservers don't need to change when making a tag change, just tick the box or whichever that states 'keep nameservers the same' Tag changes are effective immediately and there should be no downtime, the only downtime would be importing possibly so ten minutes depending on how fast their system is.

If you're talking about moving sites, then you'll have to ask someone else. I'm just talking about moving domain, I don't know how best to move a site, I just do it. I don't use one and one so can't help there either.

    Cheers
